Not half bad. It did bother me that I had to read it for school but it turned out to be kind of funny and more meaningful than I expected it to be. There are a fair share of good puns in there too.

I read it in one day, in three or four sessions with short breaks. I didn't read it for my pleasure; it was more of an act of giving. I read it to intentionally give my reading notes to someone I love. I still have these notes.. Anyway, in spite of being pleasure-ambivalent, I had fun reading it. Ionesco said he wrote the play as a response to the widespread conversion of supposedly free-thinking humans to fascist ideals before and during World War II. And I felt, while reading the play, as if I'm reading a dialogue between humanity and the alter-ego of humanity. An active reader will have to face many moral dilemmas reading it, and will be surprised of how relatively can democracy exist in the core of fascism. The play was a witty reflection that I really enjoyed.

deliciously absurd and yet extremely clear in its message; the sense of irrationality meets the urge to conform to the changing expectations and standards of the society; the sane become the mad and the mad, led by the herd, become the sane
