I never thought I'd like this book as much as I loved reading it now!!! I was wishing for a sequel before I even ended reading it! I was so much in love with it!
I absolutely love Elizabeth! I love the fact that she's named Elizabeth and that she's so badass! She was a very good protagonist and had the reader's liking from the first chapter!
The plot wasn't very complex or vast. Sometimes it was pretty easy to guess what's coming next, but what really had me was the characters! Boecker built her fictional characters into real - life beings and that was magical! I was so absorbed by the characters throughout, and every characters had their own distinct personality. I was so attached to the characters after I finished reading this!
I also found the romance in this book very touching. It was subtle and passionate at the same time and it was so beautiful! <3
Overall, the author should be proud of what she's come up with because this is one of my favourite witch/wizard stories and I'm so hoping for a sequel right now! I just can't get enough of Boecker's writing! :D

I cannot believe how much I loved The Witch Hunter. I could not put it down. I listened to it every free minute I could, even sitting in my car longer than I needed to just so I could get a couple more sentences. I NEED the rest of the series right now. I must binge. The audiobook was read by Nicola Barber and was 10 hours, 4 minutes long.

The story was unique, new and refreshing. I loved that it was about the normal “fantasy” characters – witches, the undead, creatures, ect, but it didn’t feel like anything I had read before. The writing was amazing. Virginia Boecker, I bow down to you. I loved the writing, the style and the plot. I would love to sit down and have coffee with her someday! Very inspiring.
Characters. I cannot say enough about her characters. They were all so well-developed, even the side characters. I loved Elizabeth’s character arc and her timeline.
Swoon girls, swoon. John. I just want to reach into the book and pull him out (let’s not tell my husband about this). It was definitely love at first word with John. He is MY OTP! Back off ladies, he is taken!
I cannot wait to see how this series goes. I have to tell you that one reason I admired and loved this first book so much was that it was a full story. There was a complete plot and climax, but it also lead right into the rest of the series. That is high on my needs list for series I love.
Nicola was an amazing narrator. I actually searched for more books that she narrated just because I enjoyed listening to her story telling so much.
Gripes:
Are you kidding?! There is nothing I can say bad here. FIVE STARS!

This was really not my book.
I didn’t like the writing style of Virginia Boecker and expected something else from the plot synopsis.
That I stopped this story after page 30 does though not mean that this book is not good, I don’t know.

SO MANY EMOTIONS.
the plot development could be better,
BUT THE FEELS , EMOTION , BETRAYAL , HOPE
made me forget all the little details.
I'm really looking forward to the sequel, specially after reading that sneak-peak.

7/10
Good, fast-paced, easy read that was a better book than I expected. I really enjoyed the author’s attention to detail and her compelling descriptions. Another thing I really enjoyed and was surprised by was how the protagonist interacted one-on-one, not just with the love(s) of her life, but with side characters too. I think it really added good character growth and development.
Even so, I would have liked to see more emotion and reaction in every character beyond “looks of sympathy” and how Fifer wanted to kill Elizabeth after finding out she’s a witch. Yes, the two tasseled, but not soon after they were good friends. I think it would have been more realistic to lengthen out the distrust just a bit.
I may also be getting nit picky... but it took me a while to gauge most characters’ ages, and once I did have a clearer scope, I found that the characters seemed too young, or as they say “girl” and “boy,” and referred to adults as “old.” Again, it is a ya novel so I wouldn’t take it as a criticism, rather my opinion. Sometimes I also had difficulty understanding what the author meant when she added certain details. For example, when Elizabeth is back in her room during the masquerade, she mentions its been over a year... does that mean she’s been away at missions for a year or that it’s been a year since she escaped Fleet?
I also would have liked to get more detail and deeper interaction between Elizabeth and Blackwell. With more evidence given to the reader through a character’s actions and words, rather than being told he/she was or is this, would have given me more emotion toward Blackwell. Where the book is, Blackwell is just another villain, but it had the potential to make me trust, suspect, understand, or hate Blackwell, and follow the progression of his character development.
Finally, one of the largest things I’m most upset about is how Malcolm’s raping Elizabeth appeared to, initially, be used just as a link for getting Elizabeth tried as a witch and put in jail. There was little regard or emotion surrounding how “he took a part of me I can never get back” (358). The presence of rape seemed to simply be a side detail that was never looked at too closely beyond the reason why Elizabeth was carrying and taking witch’s herbs, and another secret for Elizabeth to keep, meant to amp up the story.
To end on a good note, I really liked the incorporation of the illusion v. reality at the end! It really threw me for a loop and left me with a seed of doubt against reality until the end.
Overall, a good easy read that could have made a few adjustments.

I think this book had a lot of potential but it just fell flat for me. The dialogue felt very juvenile, forced, and awkward. It felt more like the dialogue you would find in a children's book than a YA book. I might be expecting too much but when there are so many decent YA books out there that don't necessarily read like teen fiction and you read the dialogue in this, it feels especially juvenile. Overall, I would say it was just OK.
This book was amazing I couldn't put it down! I'm freaking out that it's only 2 book! Starting King Slayer I'm not ready to say goodbye to everyone I love these characters so much!!!
So, i do really like the idea of this book but i think that it isn't executed in a good way.It could have been a good book with a great story but it had its lenghts and it dosen't really have a climax in my opinion. And I also don't that the characters had much depth or development. It's not a bad book but nor is it a really good either. Also because I read the discription on the back I thought that the main characters really was a witch, which would have been more interesting in my opinion. So the fact that I went in this book with wrong expectations didn't help either (but that was entirely my fault since I misunderstood it).
