It’s a good, engaging book. The addition of adding multiple characters, even a paralegal, to make you think he might finally tell someone about his stepfather was interesting. In the end someone had to speak up for him, which can happen in life when a person’s spirit is broken and they’re in fear. The book was relatively predictable though, outside of maybe a couple details.

Hohhboy. I usually don't like stories like this because they don't usually have much backstory and plot, but this one changed my whole perspective on books like this one (aka very short, with touchy subjects within). I actually quite enjoyed the emotional roller coaster this book had me on, and even though it's shorter than I would have liked, I still thought it was worth my while.

This book is like all the Bluford series; kids can relate to it and it has a positive message. Who I am to suggest a change in the formula? Plus anything that gets kids reading, I'm all about that.
