I loved the writing style. The author packs so much background details/historical context into this while staying in the present storyline. They gave each character their own strong characteristics, background stories, and provided detail on how (most) characters relationships came to be as the main character discovers them and builds their own relationship with each character. I liked the mystery of the conflict/situation the main characters are dealing with and the pacing of how they decipher the true meanings throughout. And, the different characters that pop up also connecting to the situation. Loved the house too! So fun.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to rate this one. While it somehow kept me interested enough and reading, there were times it was boring and put me to sleep. For me it was like if Twilight crossed with Outlander. Vampires, Witches, and Daemons oh my. There's Knights, Congregation (council) and manuscripts.
It is a romance story between a witch that is struggling to come to terms with her powers and discover all the powers she even has with a vampire that has lived through so much history and knew many well known figures in history personally. Did I mention the witch is a historian. There is some other side stuff that tries to give us a plot.
There were characters talking sentences here and there in other languages. Why? It was kind of showoff. Maybe a way to try and bring some intellect to a Vampire Romance. There were times when it felt like the author was trying to do that more then write the story.
Overall it wasn't terrible, interesting enough to want to see where things were going to go and what the series will do next. Not completely enthralling or feeling like I HAVE to read more.
