This historical fantasy debut novel follows young and feisty Lady Clementine as she embarks on a dangerous quest to Egypt to find her missing father and on the request of Queen Victoria herself, the magical Tears of Hathor. She is accompanied on her mission by the charming Mr. William Hunt who is keeping a few secrets of his own. On their travels they must learn to trust each other in order to get through the hassles of the mission and to their common goals.
I loved how the plot was pictured in many different settings and steps, which felt a bit like watching an adventure movie or a theater play. We were on a train, on a boat, Victorian England, Egyptian tombs and the writing of all these places was wonderfully vivid. The puzzles in the tomb were definitely my favourite part! The pacing of the story was a bit slow in the beginning and felt a bit rushed in the end but nonetheless the overall experience was very entertaining.
I found the banter between Clementine and William to be funny and charismatic which kept me rooting for the slow burn to spark already! Loved their chemistry ! There were a few reactions (or the lack of) by the characters to certain events that were a tad bit odd to me or they felt unnatural. I also found myself thinking that the writing of Lord Thompkins's character was done entirely through his speech where it would have felt of higher quality done with descriptions. I am definitely looking forward to seeing how all these characters evolve as the rest of the series comes out.
I would recommend this to the fans of old adventure movies or games but also to people who like historical romance!
I was lucky to receive this book as an ARC (advance readers copy) by the lovely author.

Set in Victorian era England (and a bit of Egypt) this story is atmospheric depiction of a young woman taking control of her own life, against the expectations and customs of the time. And of course the best way to do so is through adventure with a dash of romance. So what’s not to like!
Lady Clementine sets to find her father with the help of his assistant while they also try to locate ancient treasures her father was after. Things don’t go as straightforward as Clementine thought in the beginning and she and her companion Mr. Hunt are stuck together traveling through Europe to Egypt.
In this treasure hunt you will find forced proximity, slow burn romance, deadly traps and magical items and a compelling storyline setting a new heroine on her way to greatness.
I personally liked the travelling scenes best because they just really set the mood and atmosphere for everything. The Victorian era is one of my favourites. And I liked Lady Clementine, because she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Even if it means to sneak in to have an audience with the Queen herself!
I hope to hear from her soon again!

Thank you Camilla Taipalvesi for sending me the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Lady Clementine and the Tears of Hathor is a YA historical fiction with a hint of fantasy in it.
I really enjoyed getting to know Lady Clementine, a strong female lead - I loved the approach to her mixed heritage, especially with a book set in Victorian times. It was great to see her go on a Mummyesqe adventure and hold her own in a fight!
I also really enjoyed the start of the romance between Clementine and William - I'm excited to see where that goes in the next book. I found the ending to be really gripping, full of twists I wasn't expecting and leaving me wanting the next book now! A great debut, perfect for fans of What The River Knows and The Mummy franchise!

I’ll begin this review by saying, that this book was such a different kind of book from what I usually read. The story surprised me so many times, and I really loved it right from the beginning! Who wouldn’t love a greatly written FMC! 🧡
I hit a bad reading slump right about when I started reading this and it lasted almost two months. So it’s safe to say that it took me a longer time to finish this. But I think that just made me pay more attention to the story and its beautiful details!
I L O V E D the action packed scenes so much, it was so much fun to read them! Also the banter between Lady Clementine and Mr. William Hunt was just 🤌🏼✨
The beginning of the book was slower paced and the end was filled with many scenes full of action and emotion. All of this combined made this reading experience so great! 🧡
I can’t wait to read more about this story! I originally rated this book with 4⭐️, but after reading the 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞, I gave this book
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️✨ (4.5)
I highly recommend this book to everyone and you should absolutely read the bonus epilogue as well!
Thank you Camilla for writing this awesome and beautiful book! 🥹🧡

When Lady Clementine Whitham gets the news that her father’s disappeared at an archaeological dig in Egypt she immidiately wants to go there to search for him. Of course that's not suitable for young ladies in the Victorian era and her aunt is planning to marry her off to a proper suitor. But Clementine isn't one to give up easily and she manages to get the Queen on her side. Together with her father’s assistant, the enigmatic Mr William Hunt, she's soon off on a grand adventure.
I love tough female protagonists and Clementine is certainly one! She doesn't always behave appropriate for the time she's living in and I think it's rather cool that she's training martial art. I got to learn something new as well: tessenjutsu - to fight with a (war) fan. I love to watch documentaries about ancient Egypt and archaeology, and with the author's excellent descriptions I felt like I was on site with the characters.
Taipalvesi has been inspired by The Mummy and Indiana Jones (favorites here too!) and it shows, but I also get some Agatha Christie and Mission Impossible (the old series, not the movies with Tom Cruise) vibes. This book contains a lot of things I like, so maybe it's not a surprise that I enjoyed it. But even if the ingredients are "right" it's essential that the execution is good as well. Since I read a lot of indie authors I know this can sometimes be lacking, but that's not a problem here.
If I have to complain about something it's that Clementine blushes a lot. I understand that it's to show her inexperience with men and romance, but it still gets a bit tiresome. A few times I also felt written "on the nose", but these are both minor issues.
There's a lot more I could write about this book, but it would be revealing too much. If you like historical fantasy (not so much fantasy elements yet, but there will be), a kick-ass female character, some plot twists, and a slow burn romance with fun banter you should try this!

🪭From the very first chapter, I was hooked on this book. The story is a thrilling blend of historical fantasy and adventure, following Lady Clementine Whitham as she defies societal norms and embarks on a perilous quest to find her missing father and a legendary relic.🪭
🪭The writing style is excellent, immersive, vivid, and perfectly paced. One of my favorite aspects was the playful quarrels between Clementine and the dashing Mr. William Hunt. Their chemistry added charm and humor to the story, making their partnership just as compelling as the treasure hunt itself.🪭
🪭Clementine is a standout heroine, balancing strength and vulnerability as she navigates both external dangers and her own identity. The Egyptian setting and the mix of mystery, danger, and romance reminded me of “The Mummy” and “Indiana Jones”. It’s an exhilarating ride from start to finish! I’ve been looking for a book with this vibe for a long time. 🪭
🪭I’m incredibly grateful to for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. If you’re a fan of fast-paced adventures, strong heroines, and a touch of romance, this is a must-read. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series!🪭
