Another reread - it's an old favorite for good reason

From the perspective of when this book was written, the technology imagined is uncanny when compared to today. Did some of his writings inspire inventions?! The level of detail in the descriptions of everything seen on the voyage is truly amazing.

He takes much less time over the action that a modern writer would, and has long taxonomic lists of marine life, but once I got used to that I thought it was fantastic: Some brilliant ideas and images (Atlantis, laser guns, the horde of lost treasure, Arabian tunnel, and Nemo and the Nautilus themselves).

This Oxford edition has some great footnotes too: A letter from Verne confirming that Nemo was originally Polish (fighting the Russians) and not Indian.
