I'm glad I picked this series up again because I liked this third one better than the second one. I listened on audio and thought the narrator did a good job.

2.5*. Very weird meandering mystery plot, which didn't really make much sense. And way too much irresponsible spontaneous sex between very unlikely characters, which also didn't make any sense for those characters in those situations. The writing is still good and the whole story is not boring, just very nonsensical.

I liked that Kincaid was in charge of the investigation in this novel, rather than being on the edges because of a personal connection to the crime. This isn't the best written book of all time by any stretch but it was entertaining. I feel that there was potential for it to be better but it just wasn't fleshed out. The killer's motivation seemed weak. I was thrilled at the Kinkaid/James coupling and the ending was enough to make me want to immediately pick up the 4th book.

I found this book a bit frustrating to read because no one was telling the truth at all and the detectives were constantly hounding all the suspects, separately (as the investigating duo were split up). I know that was the whole point of the book, but in this case it just did not satisfy me and I can't quit put my finger on why. There were lots of little clues on the way which led me to half correctly guess the next plot twist. So it wasn't badly written, it just didn't connect with me this time.

Honestly this was really frustrating to read because Kincaid was so creepy the whole book and it felt quite out of character. The mystery was entertaining though
