Any Human Heart

A fascinating look at the 20th century through one man's eyes. Because it's written as a journal it really feels like you know the character and we get to see how the events of the time affect an ordinary person (albeit one who meets an astounding number of famous artists and writers.)

Uruguay.

Pretty good read. Lots of name dropping, but plausible given the milieu. I enjoyed the writing style, and it seemed to fit the premise of a writer keeping a journal. The narrative set pieces were generally compelling, but II was annoyed by the gaps being glossed over. Recommended.

Written as a personal memoir where the protagonist meets important literary, artistic and political characters as the story sweeps through the 20th century. Thoroughly enjoyable and gripping

It took me a while to get into this but I ended up enjoying it. It’s completely different to what I thought I would be like and I liked the writing style with the journal entries, it made it easier to read in a way. The constant name-dropping became slightly tiresome and by the end of it, I found it was dragging.

I know I'm supposed to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. It was kind of boring for me.

Found this book, during my vacation on Little Corn Island in Nicaragua... I found it fascinating.
