“Maybe there’s no time to think about it anymore?” That quote by Jade sums up this book for me. 65% of the time I have no idea what’s happening, but if I ride it out I’m usually rewarded with some soul punchingly good emotional moments. I love Jade Daniels more than any other protagonist I’ve ever read. I love Letha. I love Hardy. I even love Stacey Graves. The first book in the series packed in so much, and I think it allowed SGJ to really spread out and bring Proofrock to life even more in this one. I love this book and struggled with the precise flow of events equally. But I guess Jade wins out as she should.

Thank you for another great read, Mr. Jones. I love ghosts more than slashers, but I love Jade Daniels most of all. Looking forward to the final installment. I sure hope there is a movie deal in the works out there.

Its an incredibly complex, thorny text and I'm not even talking about the wholesale horror meta that sometimes gets a little dull (?) or the obfuscating plot. No, it's the interweaving meditations on history, culture, violence and existential dread that will inspire essays and doctorates for years. And yes, it's beautifully moving too.
