The characters are a bit annoying but cute at the same time. And It's a fun short story, I wouldn't have minded a bit more.
The best thing: Frank, the gruff and terrifying club owner, who seems a bit heartbroken. For some reason everyone is scared of him. Is it just because he's the boss and no one wants to lose their job, or is there another reason?
Does anyone know if he has a book already? I really want to read it.

I’ve read this author before but not this series. This is a mm contemporary novella. I’ll read more from this series.

Reread/Relisten #3 June

Didn’t love this as much as the second and 3rd time reading this.

I am definitely feeling a slump coming up, and unfortunately I can’t find a book to keep me hooked… and not even Greg B can save me haha I’m blaming the June Gloom in SoCal for this mood Haha

Reread #2: Mar. 2022

Same as the first reread Greg Boudreaux is magic and when that is paired with military men protecting the love interest. Yup sign me up!

Reread #1 Nov. 2021

Rating: 3.5-4 stars

Okay, yes first go around with this book, I didn’t like it. then I really wanted a new book that Greg Boudreaux has narrated and I thought why not give this book one more chance, if I still didn’t like it at least I got to listen to Greg B. But as it turns out I enjoyed this book a lot! Greg Boudreaux made this book and I think listening to it made this waaaay more enjoyable.

So if you’re hesitant definitely give the audiobook a try because you won’t regret it. Now I am skipping Reds book because that one I didn’t like, and moving on to Luckys!

2-2.5 stars: Dec 2020

Honestly the beginning was good, I liked the banter between the two main characters. But I will say that the relationship felt way to rushed for me. Even though nothing happened until about 60% it didn't flow as well as I would have hoped.

I don't think I will continue with the series. It just wasn't for me.

The very ending of the book and finding out who was behind the death threats of Colton is what left me in shock. I didn’t expect who it was and thought it was someone else. Charlie had me surprised by the villain, and I love when authors can leave me in shock.

If you’re a fan of M/M Romance, then I would recommend this book, I’ll have to make time for the next books in the series and also check out Charlie’s other books since I’ve heard some fantastic things.

Story Rating: 4 stars
Steaminess Rating: 4 stars
Standalone or part of series: Part of Four Kings Security Series.
Do I recommend this book? Yes.
Will I read other books from the author? Yes.
Tropes/Elements: Enemies-to-Lovers (Due to Ace having to be Colton’s Bodyguard); Instant Attraction, but both characters fight it, which makes it a Slow Burn for me.

Favorite Quotes
“I don’t want a quick f**k with you Colton, because there would be no getting you out of my system.” Colton sucked in a sharp breath, and Ace landed in to kiss Colton’s cheek. “You deserve more.” (pg. 95)

“Colton narrowed his eyes. “Big help you are. Aren’t you supposed to protect me?” “Do you want me to shoot it?” “Yes, Ace. I want you to shoot the seaweed.” “If I could, but then someone would hear it and call the cops, and then I’d have to explain to them and to King how I drew my gun on a bunch of algae, and I don’t know, that seems like an awful lot of paperwork. I don’t like paperwork. I can call it in if you want. Get Lucky out here to take care of it. Or ask it out on a date.” (pg. 174)

I knew that I could count on Charlie Cochet: she's a fantastic writer and a masterful creator of comedic and adventurous stories. I loved her THIRDS books with my whole heart and I'm so happy I've decided to start this series too.
I adored "Love in Spades": it's got the bodyguard/client-secret-affair trope that I absolutely, and shamelessly, love. It's got a snarky characters and found family. It's got romance and comedy and action and I managed to devour it in less than 24 hours.
I loved both of the MCs, but Ace is truly something special: he reminds me of Dex, with his chaotic, snarky and headache-inducing ways. He's also tough and sensitive and I loved how cute he and Colton were together. I'm also a complete sucker for found family and, as usual, Cochet does not disappoint: this series has found family written all over it from the first line.
This first book also hints at quite a few interesting developments with the other Kings (yeah, I'd die for Lucky), so I'm starting the second book right away. I'm so very curious to see what will happen

Yes yes yes!

I’ll be honest—it took me more than halfway through to feel any attachments to Colton or Ace, but the story had piqued my interest and I wanted to see how it played out. Good decision! Once I got a feel for these two, I was hooked. But I absolutely can’t wait to dive into Red and Laz’s story next!

Hot damn. This was one amazing story. I loved every bit of it.

Colton was receiving death threats, so his father hired the Four Kings Security company to elevate protection for his son. Colton was NOT happy, and he was quite prickly about the whole thing. Luckily, Ace was the perfect prickly ass to give his attitude right back to him--and Ace enjoyed every minute of it. The mystery aspect played out in no way that I was expecting. I was led to where I thought I knew what the deal was, and NOPE. Totally wrong. I loved that.

Ace was such a fun character. From the first paragraphs, I was in love with Ace and his wild and crazy ways. What I loved even more was his loyalty, dedication, and sense of family. Finding something with Colton while working was really weighing on Ace because he didn't want to disappoint his family, and it was lovely to watch him struggle with and come to terms with all of that.

Colton was an awesome character, too. He got frustrated when others tried to butt in and run his life, but we find that Colton has every right to be annoyed by that, and it was rather endearing.

The chemistry between Ace and Colton was so intense. I loved how they went from fiery and antagonistic to sweet and cuddly and then back. These two guys were meant for each other, and they were written so well. I am so excited about this new series by Charlie Cochet, and I can not WAIT to read about the rest of the Kings.

An entertaining read, with plenty of humor and an amazing group of characters. While i adored the relationship development and banter between Colton and Ace, this book definitely provides an introduction to everyone and sets up for the rest of the series perfectly.

Theres some great action scenes towards the start and the end, involving car chases and fights which were a lot of fun. I didn't have a clue as to the culprit and so the twists here were great, it was an amazing reveal and so enjoyable.

There are a lot of fun and sweet/hot moments throughout, such as the scenes by the pool and on the beach. These two have incredible chemistry from start to finish and i enjoyed their development so much.

Many great characters throughout so be difficult to mention them all, but of course i adored the Kings of Ace, Lucky, Red and King. They're all so different and have an amazing bond, i loved learning a little about them throughout along with their future partners. Also would love to see more of Frank and Joshua as they're adorable.

Overall a great read with a lovely happy ending, i look forward to reading more of the series soon xx
