Well this is a fun one - magic boarding school but make it supernatural agent summer camp! The main character is the voice you need and the friendship drama fits in perfectly with the unique world.

I liked Amari as a character but the plot was just a bunch of Harry Potter plot points jumbled together in 1 book.
