Did not enjoy as much as The Courage to Be Disliked. There’s some amatonormativity towards the end, implying that you must experience “love” and enter a romantic relationship in order to become a fully realized adult. But it was toward the end of the book and it went unquestioned by the youth. It didn’t make sense to me that the only way to become a mature adult would be to enter a romantic relationship where the subject changes from “I” to “us.” Is that really the only kind of relationship where you can be partnered in this way? What if you’re in a committed poly relationship with multiple people? What if you are a single parent? What if you are aromantic or asexual? I found myself wondering what Adler’s approach to homosexuality might have been, too. This is the same theory you hear everywhere else and hasn’t really kept up with the times. 
Other than that I thought it was an interesting book. The conclusion was just disappointing.
