4.26 AVERAGE

ugh i really wanted to give this five stars but it falls in the 4-4.5 range because of the ending, which was a bit rushed and kind of felt smaller than what it was set up to be, although it was beautiful to read. this really is a feminist book and it has so many strong points, like its worldbuilding, retelling from many perspectives and the crossover of cultures we see towards the end. it's unique in its own way, and i absolutely loved all the descriptions and personalities of the creatures, though the final antagonists could've been further developed. i would like the 2 prequels to follow niclays and the priory, tyvm, and the sequel to show me where my baby loth is. wherever he is, i hope he's happy and has aralaq with him. the f/f romance is absolutely gorgeous and the writing in some places made my heart literally swoon. i shall miss this world.

I refuse to accept that this is only a one-book story, even if it's about 900 pages long.

I don't have much to say. It's a book you should read and experience, not read reviews about. The worldbuilding is fantastic and well interspersed with the story. The characters are multifaceted; you will love them in one chapter and hate them in the next one.

I preordered this book back in October, my physical copy hasn't arrived yet...so I just binge-read this monster of a book on my mother's Kindle. That is how good it is.

NOW STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND GO READ THE BOOK.

i think the first half was stronger than the second half, and i don't think i would reread, BUT i really enjoyed this book, it had some beautiful descriptions and some characters i found really compelling - i did not expect to be so pro-tané by the end of it but HERE WE ARE. i struggled between 3 and 4 stars but i've opted for 4 as overall i thought it was a good read

HOWEVER the ending felt like a real anticlimax for two reasons: the stakes didn't seem as urgent as they did halfway through the book where there were real consequences/casualties; and
Spoilerthe fight against the Nameless One was such a let down?? i can't believe shannon hyped him up for so long and then he was just actually a bigger dragon... fyredel put in all that work and for what?!
. when you have a book this long, i feel like the ending really has to land, and i'm not sure this one did.

i thought the world-building was really nicely done, and some of the characters were well fleshed out (although there were so many... and so many came to nothing...).
