Honestly, I was okay with the Maze Runner trilogy ending where it did- but that doesn't mean I wasn't excited for this one. I enjoyed getting to meet the future generations and see that the Gladers were able to live on the island. It was really good, but not nose-in-the-book-curled-up-in-a-ball good until at least the last three pages. Maybe the next book will be much more action filled. This one felt more like an exposition type deal: "this is how they got here and now the story begins". All in all, a good read!

this book was not my cup of tea, it was not that interesting in my opinion. I don't know why I thought it would be like the other Maze runner books, it definitely was not like the other books.

I absolutely love The Maze Runner series, including the prequel book. However, just like most late add ons to series that were popular years ago, this just wasn’t the same.

I didn’t initially realize this was a whole new series, which explains why the whole book felt like it was leading up to something that just never happened. Even though there were some significant plot points, overall it just felt as if nothing really happened. We never learned much more about the Godhead or the Remnant Nation or anyone’s motives for anything they did over the course of the book. The main characters from the island don’t have any real goals other than escaping the bad situations that they keep ending up in.

Several of the characters were so meaningless that they were hardly even mentioned more than once or twice before they died at the end of the book, so much so that I didn’t even realize they were there until more than halfway through the book and kept forgetting about them. Their whole purpose was to exist meaninglessly without dialogue or development so that when someone inevitably died, it wasn’t a character that was even remotely important, which felt a little like a cop out to me.

Even though I didn’t feel that this book was well done, I probably still will continue with the series out of hope that it gets better and my nostalgia for the original Maze Runner series.
