It was harsh and and almost creepy at times
I can do age gaps. I've read several age gap romances over the years and a 5 year gap isn't terrible by any means. What I cannot do is read about an 18yr old crushing on a 13yr old without cringing and skimming through the rest of the chapter. Childhood friends to lovers is one thing, a 13yr old liking a guy older than her is also another thing (not fantastic but not gross and creepy), but the underage (and I mean UNDERage) thing is just a no go for me. The other thing that made this book hard to read is how harsh Brody was to Jessa. Sure, there can be push and pull, hot and cold, but when he's putting her down so far that she literally feels she needs to run away? Too far. Why she kept coming back, idk because if someone treated me that bad, I'd be gone. The other thing that I couldn't get over is how immature Jessa was for a 25yr old. She seemed a lot more like an 18 or 19 yr old with the attitude and her coping mechanisms. Her decisions were rushed and she was a walking disaster half the time. I'm giving it 2 stars because while there's a lot I didn't like about this book (especially after the first book had been great), but it's getting 2 stars because I couldn't put it down and I was invested in the story.

I just need to get this rant off my chest and then I’ll move on to the good.
Jessa did my fucking head in. Kept saying she wanted to come clean and tell Brody everything but time and time again avoided it like the plague. And then when he outright asked her a question that was her perfect opening, she didn’t even answer it! Even when she knew she was putting another nail in the coffin because “what’s the point, he’s made up his mind already”???!! Fuck! Off! I wanted to smack her so hard.
I know she was worried he’d never look at her the same again, that she blamed herself for the fuckups of many. But why say she was going to spill all, and then every time the opportunity presented itself, clam up instead? And not just clam up, she picked a fight. She kept telling Brody she was sick of having the same fight with him but SHE WAS THE ONE STARTING IT EVERY DAMN TIME! Ugh.
Ok I’m calm now. Think I have a bit of a love/hate thing going on with this book because I truly enjoyed it as a whole, Jessa’s idiocy aside.
There was soooo much sexual tension between them. It was amazing, like another character in itself. So when they caved…gaaah! Explosive. And so hot!
The start was intriguing, I thought there might be some super jealous OW drama as a big focal point yet we were taken down a different path.
But yeah, those were basically my two big takeaways from this book. Jessa made things worse by being a cowardly douche, and they had a lot of really hot sex.

This story was just okay for me. It felt like a bigger deal was made out of the fact that Jessa had been a drug addict than needed to be. The whole story was a build up to a big secret and when she finally fessed up, it was a let down. She is part of a rock band family/friends where they are always getting high on drugs and alcohol. Why would she believe that they could possibly judge her.
In addition to that the whole thing with Seth seems very murky. Did he prey on an adolescent? And why is everyone so unclear about what occurred?
Nonetheless the less, I wasn’t a big fan of this book. I will give the next one a go

The FL annoyed me when she kept running away from her problems more than halfway through the book

😩😩😩😩😩😩
I wanted to like it. So much. And I kind of did. But it just took for freaking EVER to get to the big reveal. By halfway through I was like good heavens are we ever going to get to anything to move this story forward. Bleh.
