Normally I give a 3.5 star book a 3 instead of 4, but I bumped this one up to a 4 for the sheer fact that I read this in one day at the cabin and I really enjoyed so many of the quotes about running and life.

I wanted so much more from this memoir. I felt like it couldn't decide if it was a coming of age tale, a nature book, or a study in conflict and first-people's culture. Also, it felt like I was supposed to know and care about the circle of characters around Noe on the trail, but I never felt close to them. The entire memoir felt a little scattershot and kept me at an arm's distance and I struggled to finish it. Disappointing.

Beautiful story telling, bringing light to stories of Native Americans and U.S immigrants.

I’m always up for a story of feats of endurance through impossible-like journeys and circumstances and this one doesn’t disappoint on that front. A fast read on the difficulty of a clearly difficult from the start “marathon” through the north and central americas. Did I want more? Yes. Could I tell there was a lot left unsaid? Yes. Was the overarching theme fulfilled through his words? Not quite and felt a bit troublesome at the very end when it was wrapping up. But hey, this was Noé’s journey and his story and I’m here for it. Thankful for this glimpse from his perspective on a turbulent experience and pieces of the life of a child of immigrants, and updates in the never ending struggle. I enjoyed the story and it led me to dig into some thins mentioned which I’m always appreciative of.
