I have not known a story to keep my attention so focused, and drive to read more so consuming, in quite a long time.
Sanderson has crafted an enormous world (though, ironically, I'm finding it a little easier to wrap my mind around at this point than I did with the 'Mistborn' series') and has, at the same time, made it very approchable by introducing the reader to select characters in the book, and simply having their interactions with others build the world up around them. At the begining, I couldn't imagine having to keep track of a dozen or more characters, but at the end, I just want him to introduce even more!
My Cosmere journey didn't start here, and I think I have both done myself a favour and also a *slight* disservice in reading much of the rest of the novels and short stories first: A service in the sense that I am picking up on name/character/concept drops that I may otherwise have forgotten or glazed over, and a disservice in that I'm constantly expecting payoff/explaination about aforementioned factors immediately.
I recognize that, officially, the Cosmere can be approached from nearly any entry point, but I can now start to see why many people have such a strong preference for reading order.
I am eager to dive into the next book. Good thing I already have it available.
