a cute, neurotic saga of a gothy boy going through the epic highs and lows of ocd and love - it was a bit hard to get through for the first half, but towards the end of it i have to admit that i was endeared.
things i liked:
- all the pop references. got a bit much at times but ultimately one of the book's better charms
- vicky. she is the older sister i needed
- the fourth love. this is where we truly started to see a more mature, serious perspective about love and relationships and i could feel how much he treasured her presence. i guess it makes sense that this is where things started picking up for me bc loves 1-3 were more childish and silly
- su su <3 that's uncle.

things i didn't really like/were mildly annoyed by
- erena. i'm sorry it just felt like 'wow she's the manic pixie girls of his dreams' was being pushed in my face and i didn't really jive w/ her dialogue. i felt overloaded everytime and she just didn’t feel like a real person? As others have pointed out the dialogue (hers esp imo) was contrived idk idk
- abrupt breakup towards the end i know we're supposed to be blindsided like young but meh.
- dream sequences. sorry didn't really feel necessary to me.
- paris. he's pushing it everytime he opens his mouth

overall, i will pick what resonated with me and leave the rest. living in young's brain for a bit and experiencing boyish bravado and heartbreak was a bit of a wild ride, but his neuroticism and need for structure i definitely relate to. vicky and su su have some truth behind their words relating to how it takes time to heal, how to experience the world, to just get up and do things, not let fear/the need of direction govern you... bangbangbang! would recommend if you like things that are super all over the place and verbose/rambly as well as 80's 90's pop culture references.

the vibe was just not right. I'd say, and i hate shitting on novels because ultimately they are labours of love, but it was just so pretentious

This book was fine. I don’t think I was the target audience and I probably shouldn’t have forced my way through it. The characters were quirky without being particularly lovable, and this leaned towards the YA side of the spectrum, which I know is not quite my thing. It also went on a bit long.

This was difficult to follow as an audiobook. I’ll try again another time in the written format.

The constant bombardment of pop culture references became taxing and tedious. The romance didn’t stick with me either
