I have mixed feelings about this book. There is little to no plot, and there were some cringy parts of the book that didn’t seem well thought out, for example, a fight. The main characters have towards the end of the book seems selfish and unnecessary.

This book just seems like an extra book to add to the series.

I wanted to read this book as my goal last year was to discover new authors and Elle Kennedy is adored on Booktok and Bookstagram. I read my first sport romance book last year with Icebreaker and I loved The Deal. I didn’t think the series could get any better, but damn I was wrong, and I think I am declaring myself as a John Logan girlie.

This book has two points of view. The first one is John Logan, he is a college junior and he can get any girl he wants. For this hockey star, life is a parade of parties and hook-ups, but behind his killer grins and easygoing charm, he hides growing despair about the dead-end road he’ll be forced to walk after graduation. A sexy encounter with freshman Grace Ivers is just the distraction he needs, but when a thoughtless mistake pushes her away, Logan plans to spend his final year proving to her that he’s worth a second chance. And now he’s going to need to up his game. The second point of view is Grace Ivers. After a less than stellar freshman year, Grace is back at Briar University and is older, wiser and so over the arrogant hockey player she nearly handed her V-card to. She's not a charity case, and she’s not the quiet butterfly she was when they first hooked up. If Logan expects her to roll over and beg like all his other puck bunnies, he can think again. He wants her back? He'll have to grovel for it. This time around, she’ll be the one in the driver’s seat . . . and she plans to drive him wild.

I don’t know what it is about hockey romances, but they are addictive as shit. The writing isn’t brilliant, but the storyline and the characters is adorable. I wanted to hug Grace and John, I also wanted to smack John and I'm so glad he got over his little hiccup and he is soo damn sexy. These characters had personality, and both had a storyline with issues of their own but also were all about each other, they wanted to make each other better. John with his issues with his dad, I just wanted to hug him and how he was so scared about his future and what was going to happen with him and his dad. That's why he was such of player and just wanted to be able to enjoy hockey before “growing up.” Grace was so strong, and I love the way she made John grovel so damn much and I love that she stood her ground. I love her so damn much for that and wanted to hug her when she was going through all the thoughts in her head during the summer. Coach Jensen is so badass, and I love the fact that he cares for his team and his boys. That he knew that John was a damn good hockey player and that he would be so much better playing professional hockey rather than looking after his dad and the garage. I loved how Grace and John’s love story just kept growing and there wasn’t a third act breakup, there was a first-act breakup but for good reason, for them to grow and know what they want in life.

This book didn’t have any weaknesses whatsoever. I wanted it to be longer, I would have loved for Coach Jensen be at the game at the epilogue. I’ve heard that Dean and Allie book is amazing so I'm very excited for that, but I wanted to hug John in the first book and fell in love with him more in this book.

I'm loving this series so much, they touch some triggering topics but the way that the writers handle this it has so much healing that is such a refreshing reading, I'm just in book 2 and I believe that this is my favorite romance series.

this book was fun in general and I really enjoyed it at first but….

the girl mc was so unlikeable towards the end. she said her ex friend didn’t deserve her help to be saved from sa and essentially victim blamed her.

the girl mc had ocd but the depiction of ocd was so inaccurate. it seems like the author did not do any research about ocd before writing it in their book. trust me, ocd is much more complicated than just cleaning up after your roommate.

objectifying wlw by the guy mc. made me very uncomfy.

this book also lacked in diversity…

overall, the book had good potential but ya it was the little (big) things that ruined this for me.

While there are certain aspects of this book which I enjoyed, there are other aspects which I didn't. Sometimes I liked the lead characters, Logan and Grace. I thought they had good chemistry together, which kept me invested in the book. Others times, they grated me, like with their sexism and misogyny. I found both to be excessively harsh to Ramona. Grace especially made me dislike her after she victim blames Ramona, who was kidnapped and almost sexually assaulted by a group of guys. Logan's dislike of Ramona felt too over-the-top especially considering how he made things uncomfortable with Garrett and Hannah. Both characters were a bit too judgmental for me.

As a whole, the book is a fast read. There's not a lot of in depth writing for Grace and Logan's relationship. It's very much an insta-lust connection. I do think they had spark together. There's a good amount of steam in the book. I just think the author could have done a better job developing their romance; and, also, Grace as a character. By the end of the book, I felt like I understood Logan more as a character then I did Grace.
