I really loved this entire series. From Volume 1 to Volume 5. What an amazing ride.

This one let me down, though. I glanced over the other reviews, and people talked about how disjointed it seemed, like stories that had nothing to do with each other, bouncing around in time and place. Leading to loads of confusion.

Which is true. But mostly, I was just insanely frustrated because I know so little about the DCU, and my access is limited by location and money. I've got so many book buyer requests into my library for comic book series', my librarians are going to start laughing at me.

I don't know what the hell is going on. Which wasn't a problem, really, for the first four volumes. But this one has so many characters I don't know, so many plot lines I'm confused about. The big groop hoo-ra against Knightfall, which was, incidentally, so bad ass it hurts. But that's a lot of characters I am guessing are DC canon? I have absolutely no idea they are.

And yes, the stories are disjointed, and feel like there's no real beginning or end. The first story, which seems CRAZY fascinating. I want to know more about this magical dream world that somehow has something to do with The Joker and ice cream, but it has no beginning or end. It's just a middle, somewhere right before the big climax. Then nothing.

The vampire story line, on the other hand, was fantastic. A great little twist I genuinely didn't see coming. And then The Ragdoll, so creepy. The voice in my head I gave to that villain really freaked me out, I walked through my house reading it and had to keep flipping lights on.

And then the final story. I feel like this deserved a full volume on its own, especially this sudden appearance of the Bat Squad. Love them, btdubs.

I want more Batgirl. I want to read about her being The Oracle, I want the other Batgirls. I'm sad this is the last volume. Is Gail Simone still writing these? Will there be a Volume 6?

I really hope so.

The first part of this, with Silver and vampires and such, was forgettable. Did like the conclusion to Knightfall and the Future's End parts. So-so. Art solid.

What the hell did I just read? Super disjointed and a really disappointing end to a pretty good Batgirl series

This is both a frustrating book and a great capstone to Simone's run.

The big problem is that has some pretty annoying narrative gaps and fluctuations, not the least of which is Barbara's father, all of a sudden, ending up in jail between issues. That has to do with a events in another series, but how does it get just a few vague references here? I get that it's not Simone's plot, but it's certainly part of Batgirl's, and one of the things I most admired about this overall run was Simone's ability to seamlessly and meaningfully incorporate crossover material in a way that so many of the other Bat-family titles in the N52 failed to do. On a similar, though more minor note, Barbara goes from a quasi-relationship that's wonderfully hooked into a bunch of three ongoing subplots, to an issue where she laments not having any boyfriend or prospects, and back in the just issue to the original situation. It just

But Simone really pulls out all the stops to give her run a big ending. Knightfall, as a villain, was a wonderful figurehead for this run, with compelling backstory, motivations, character, and some memorably fucked up actions. Still, it felt like she petered out a bit by the end, as did the overall threat she posed. It felt a bit like the foot was taken off the narrative pedal, but that may also be a factor of various one-off issues and guest authors pitching in.

But even if the villain falls short, the payoff doesn't, culminating in a big celebration of who Batgirl is, where she was, and where she's going. If there's one thing Simone never lost touch with, it was Barbara and Batgirl's inner voice, and her ability to use that to flesh out the world around her and deepen our own involvement. Great run, and a lot of fun.

The bonus Future's End issue is excellent as well. Such an off-the-wall concept, but she delivers a great line to tie it all together.

Most of this volume seemed like a bunch of one shots thrown together. I mean, I still liked it, especially the vampire issue, but it didn't seem to link to anything.

This is the last in this New 52 run of Batgirl.. before they fucked it up all up with that fucking awful new one that bears no resembles to the character of Barabara Gordon... But anyway.. I won't rant about how terrible that is here..

This Gail Simone penned Batgirl series has been BRILLIANT. So I'm a bit disappointed by this last volume.. but over all it's still a great series. There's just a lot of WTF issues in this collection.

The first one I have no idea what the hell is going on. It's some weird alternate/dream/vision reality where the Joker sells ice cream and everybody is happy and Barbara wears a stupid while suit and is called Bluebelle for some reason?! You could skip that one.

Then we just jump right into this vampire story with some guy called Silver who I think is from another series. That was OK. Then there is a story where some college kids get strapped by some demon nightmare thing they summoned, and Batgirl has to save them. Again it was OK but a bit pointless. The story with Poison Ivy was kind of cool because I like that character.

There was also one where she has to save Alysia and her eco-activist friends from Ragdoll. That was better than expected and I actually think Ragdoll is a pretty cool, creepy assassin!

Finally we get to the conclusion of the Knightfall arc that has continued the whole run of this series. Knightfall as a big night planned to cleanse the city of all its criminals.. which I guess is a bad thing... Babs teams up with Black Canary, Huntress and enlists a lot of her other superheroine friends to help with the final fight. She also uses some of her Oracle computer skills which was cool. In the end she decides to leave Gotham with Alysia.. and I guess they're heading to Burnside to destroy everything I love about Batgirl..

The final story is the kind of alternate reality one-shot thing I HATE. It's some Futere's End thing where she's not a hero yet and steps up to help a group of survivors escape the city which is flooding. Again it feel a bit pointless.

A good solid set of stories to wrap up Gail Simone's run here. The last story, Deadline, just just really didn't end with the bang I was hoping for. The entire series was awesome. Great work by the entire creative team.
