I didn't hate it. some of the topics touched on were relatable and important to me but they were explored on such a surface level that it didn't bring me any particular enjoyment or insight. the writing style was too forced and stacked with bad metaphors. this is a book written from the worst of white feminist perspectives, privileged, naive and boring while aiming to offer somewhat political takes lol

I started it because I loved the tv show adaptation, and at first I thought I was mainly enjoying it that much because I could transpose the show in the pages. But the more I read and discovered all the bits that aren't in the show and the more invested and interested I was. I loved seeing her point of views unfold and felt super invested in her heartbreaks. I found myself in tears at some points, and also deeply touched by her depiction of the love women have for each other. I struggle with non fiction, but this was a treat. Her life is an absolutely wild ride and she tells it beautifully without having a heavy writing.
Recommended to anybody who grew up with 90s British culture !!!

related immensely to some chapters and not at all to some, which I guess is inevitable with such personal writing, but really enjoyed it overall. appreciated especially the honesty with which she writes about the jealousy and hurt that can come with your friends getting into serious relationships because god that shit is complicated and people don't talk about it enough. and overall adored the fact that she realizes how most things she knows about love really is from her friendships because honestly, isn't it all

I’m not a fan of biographies/memoirs etc but this one somehow captivated me. It could have been for me also being a lost sheep in her mid 20s, having no idea what to do with my life. Or it could have been the heartfelt journey of a teenager towards her fully fledged adulthood. Or both.

What I love most about this book is that it treats love as it should be treated - in all its variety. She talks about family, sexual and romantic parters, but most importantly - friends who are your most important support network in those years. Reading the story of love between those girls and how they constantly had each other’s back had me bawling my eyes out.

Seeing Dolly’s character development was extremely satisfying - going from insecure girl using boys as a self-validation system, to a self-confident woman who bloomed before our eyes. I know the author is older than me but I felt like a proud parent by the end.

I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t expect to relate to the author as much as I did. The glimpses into the author’s existential dread and attachment styles in relationships, was a small reminder for me to get back into therapy lol.

The chapter titled Thirty hit the nail on the head about the feeling of entering your 30s and missing the compassion and grace offered to you in your 20s.

Loved reading about her relationship with her friends.
