I just started picking up fantasy books and I just have not really found one that I enjoy.

I only read this one bc the sneak peek in the last one I read hooked me. But, the book wasn’t my favorite and didn’t really “wow” me like her others did. Not bad but not great.

I love Holly Black. I love that her books have a bit of a sinister feel. She is one of the best authors writing about faerie. Hazel is a multi-faceted character. I can't wait to give this to my teens.

holly black somehow got me to take back my words on “the Cruel Prince” because holy hell, i loved this!!

i love faeries, have since i was a kid. i just didn’t like how they were pretentious assholes in “the Cruel Prince.” i adore these faeries.

the characters. i love them all. Ben and Severin and Hazel and Jack and Carter. (dream blunt rotation tbh).

it’s so amazing to me how i can dislike a book, turn around and read a different one by the same author, and adore that one.

This was such a bizarre book. I enjoyed it, basically the whole time - but I often had to put it down and take breaks because it was just SO WEIRD. I was desperate to find out what happened though, so it was ultimately a fairly quick read. I appreciated how unafraid this book was to get really in-your-face with the graphic descriptions of relatively horrifying things, however, since other aspects of the book felt very light and 'high-school'.

I enjoyed this foray into faerie lore (I generally steer sort of clear of genre fiction) and while I also enjoyed some of the romantic elements, I found Ben's romantic situation to be extremely dull and unbelievable. Which is a shame, because it had the potential to be so much more interesting than it was.

Overall, a very fun book. Strange. Made me seriously say "wtf" out loud a few times.

Thought I was getting into a typical fantasy THEN IT WENT AND RIPPED MY HEART OUT Ms holly truly does know what she’s doing. In love with Jack myself but I GUESS hazel can have him or whatever

i enjoyed this book a normal amount!
honestly i think it had a very strong start but i felt it start dragging closer to halfway through. i didn’t feel particularly attached to any characters but the plot was interesting enough, although i felt my mind wandering quite a bit. i really loved the writing and concept tho— that’s highkey saving it in my mind.
