This was a fun set of historical novellas. All were set in and around the Civil War times for the most part and were enjoyable. My favorite story of the collection was Thoroughbreds by Ramona Cecil. I very much enjoyed the aspect of the horse element and it was a great story. I also loved Debt of Love by Lynn Coleman and Above All These Things by Connie Stevens. Both of these were highly entertaining. A great collection especially if you like all things Southern!

I received this book through NetGalley and was mot required to post a positive review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

The Southern Belle Brides Collection is an anthology written by 7 authors.

The Belle of Congaree (Lauralee Bliss) 1866

Elisa Anderson, Southern Belle, saved Yankee Mason Bassinger’s life. She gave what little she had to save him. Mason Bassinger was wealthy and gave his wealth to the townspeople.

I appreciated the faith-filled story about giving what we have because God gave it to us.

Thoroughbreds (Ramona K. Cecil) 1918

Ella Jamison questioned where there was really a God. Clay Garrett was an ex-convict. However, Clay is also a Believer. Can Ella and Clay find a way between them? This is a beautiful story of forgiveness.

The Marmalade Belle (Diane Christner) 1894

It was so cold in Ocala, Florida that the fruit was freezing on the trees and dropping to the ground. This might affect the livelihood of Maribelle Sinclair’s family. I felt a sense of nostalgia as I read this story.

Debt of Love (Lynn A. Coleman) 1868

Adeline Edwards had to pay off her father’s loan of ten thousand dollars before the month’s end. Randall Ferguson was a hard man and he would see that the loan was paid or he would take Miss Edward’s land.

As a Florida native living in the same county as the setting of this book (Palatka), I enjoyed reading this story. I learned that a Cracker was a Florida cowboy. It was interesting to learn about wrapping oranges in Spanish moss to preserve them for a long time. I also learned that the North took control of Palatka in the spring of 1863 when the town was shelled.

Hometown Bride (Patty Smith Hall) 1870

Jillian (Jilly) Chastain had to marry within a year of her father’s passing or the family farm, Greenhaven, would go on the butcher block. Grayson Hancock was left raising his three nieces after his sister and brother-in-law died from influenza. Even though he was a great uncle the girls still needed a mother. Grayson (Gray) thought a marriage of convenience would suit him and the girls just fine.

Miss Beaumont’s Companion (Grace Hitchcock) 1892

Miss Aria St. Angelo was the masked lady in place of Mildred Beaumont. Not Miss Beaumont has to pretend it was herself so Byron Roderick wouldn’t marry the wrong girl. Will he see behind the facade and find the right woman for him?

Above All These Things (Connie Stevens) 1855

Annulet Granville’s parents want her to marry for money. Her mother, Celeste, puts on a dance for all eligible rich men. I pick Peyton Stafford to be her beloved even though they are at odds with each other when they meet. This is a wonderful story of love and support.

To sum up the whole novel: I appreciate that there is a trail of faith throughout these stories. This is one novel that I’ll plan to keep and re-read.
