I really liked the first book set in Montana. There was a real exploration of place and how it related to the murder problem. But the second one felt less authentically set anywhere, not really grounded. And this third one felt like it was a series of Wikipedia articles pasted together with a murdering maniac to chase. Meh.

Moje první kniha od autora
+ krátké kapitoly
+ sarkasmus
+ závěr

- hodně biologie a odborných výrazů

Continue to like this series, but nothing holds up to the first book. More like 3.5 stars, and I finished it over a three day weekend, so tons of fun to read.

This one I waited a little to read it but it was amazing.

Theo is embarked in yet another thrilling and dangerous adventure that doesn't end that well for him, I'm eager to know what the future holds for him and Gillian.

The imagination of the author is actually enthralling and Theo is very fun to be around, he gets the more complex troubles he can get into for some reason.

An amazing series if you like thrillers

Cliffhanger master

I am just ... Shocked 😲impressed! No fancy words just... Obsessed with this book. One of the best so far of the saga! Maybe... I think he outbested himself! I just figured out why this is so addictive! You keep saying one more chapter! You want to know what is next! You need to know what is next!! Because every chapter is just a shock, a gasp, and a mind blowing event that will have much much reactions on the story! Like... I can't ! So good!!!!

Least favorite of the series so far…felt like it was all over the place at times and that the author reuses ideas. the cliffhanger at the end bumped it up from a 1.75 to a 2

Oh my God.

I think I need some emotional help here!

So, I thought this was the final book. I don’t remember how or where but I thought I read somewhere that this was “…Dr. Theo Cray’s final case...” This means I was mourning Theo and the series as a whole wishing it didn’t have to end, going through the five stages of grief until in the final third of the book I had come to accept that this was, indeed, the end.

And then the cliffhanger happened.

I was a little confused at first but then the blow hit me and I was shook at how Andrew Mayne could end a trilogy that way.

And then Goodreads shows that there is going to be another book.

I’m surprised and happy and terrified because what I didn’t get in this book, I think I may very well get in the next one.

Gah! I want to spoil so bad, but that cliffhanger, yo. Let’s just say I thought something was going to happen to someone in Murder Theory and the last half of the book would be trying to solve that something that had happened. But it didn’t and I was left the usual bored during most of the second act during the extensively detailed investigation portion of the book. This happened last time for me but my dull feelings were intensified this time around as the culprit behind the killings was more of a Moriarty to Theo instead of being the actual killer like in the first two books.

Yes, this book dealt with a “killer” who was intellectually dangerous as opposed to physically—which is something Theo Cray hasn’t faced yet. But I’m more into the haunting danger of slasher-thriller. But that’s just me.

AND THEN THAT CLIFFHANGER HAPPENED!!!

Combined with my immediate surprise after that the series was continuing I’m just overwhelmed with an array of complex emotions. In Dark Pattern, the next book, Theo is in the kind of danger he can’t solve or get himself out of this time WHILE chasing another killer.

I don’t know what to do. I do not KNOW WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW.

The only thing to do is buy the next book and read it, I guess. I’m really, REALLY afraid of what gets him to that point in the next book and I hope that it also isn’t the final book for Theo Cray. And if it is I’m just happy I got to see my favorite naturalist get to go through one more story.
