i’m reviewing this like 2 weeks after reading it so i can’t rlly remember anything except there was magic and then there wasn’t, and the storm also wasn’t real but it sort of was. there was also curses of ownership and this guy who was a bit like frankenstein’s creature who made me sad. this is reminding me of goncharov, and i think that’s all i can say on the matter

Honestly, really enjoyed! Had to read it for school and I definitely used modern language translations to help but this is a super fun read with really colorful characters and a touching little epilogue seemingly from William himself :)
“We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.
This is a play I’ve been wanting to read for AGES! Well, ever since I found out it was the base for the film Forbidden Planet. My grandfather introduced me to that movie when I was a kid, and it became a firm favourite :0)
Coming back to Shakespeare, this play is rather short on plot, compared to others I’ve read. It all centres on revenge, forgiveness, and renouncing one’s magic. All somehow revolves around who will Have Miranda, for that person will have the power/prize. Not that surprising for the time, and yet, the Bard has written some feisty and intelligent heroines before. No, the whole focus is really on Prospero and his journey.
I did like the way Sleep is used, since I can see how the scriptwriters used this for the film. Actually, I actively tried to see what aspects had been utilised :0) Some very famous lines do appear - funny how those filter through and become known by osmosis.
“Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows”
Not my favourite of Shakespeare, but well worth the read. Now, let’s watch the film :0)

So done with this. I would have liked the play more if I hasn't had to read and overly analyze every aspect of this play is very much like beating a dead horse with a stick. (Thank you assy world lit professor.) The play is good, it's worth a read, if you're reading it for a class I wish you the best of luck and I hope the analysis doesn't ruin it for you. It ruined it for me.

This one is definitely in my top three favorite Shakespeare plays for sure!
This one was lacklustre. There was a lot that could have happened but didn’t. The potential helps me understand why it gets reimagined a lot… but the source material is far from Shakespeare’s best.
