This one was really entertaining but the ending got a bit confusing. Loved the magic and metadrama of it. Caliban was probably my favorite character.

I think if I saw this in production, my review would be higher. Shakespeare can be wonderful, but for me, it has to be heard and seen, not just read.

Read to prep for our next book club read, Margaret Atwood’s Hag-seed, a commissioned retelling of The Tempest. Read without notes in electronic format from the Folger Shakespeare Library, so I definitely missed some of the jokes and references, but got the gist.

2023 Heart of America Shakespeare Festival production

Beautiful production and this was one of the few Shakespearean plays I had not read yet! Filled with revenge, magic, and a little romance, the play is a compelling tale of forgiveness. With your normal Shakespearean wit and humor thrown in.

I like this play. I read it as the same time as some essays by Montaigne and Robinson Crusoe. The role of the "primitive" made my English Major heart happy.

I mean it was Shakespeare's take on colonialism, it was....interesting.
