This book is not what I thought it would be. In a good way.
Meda is a soul-eater. She kills bad people, people who have killed other people. However, after her latest meal, she is interrupted by three men in suits who are like her. The only ones like her she has ever known and the key to finding out what or who she really is.
When Mom told me I was special and unique, I thought she literally meant I was special and unique. Turns out I'm only 'mom-special'.
I loved her wit and her snark and the fact that she is nothing like the normal YA female protagonist.
Like anyone on a diet, I've found that complete abstention never works - it just leads to poor decision-making later. Of course, my binges don't result in weight gain, but rather indiscriminate homicide. I'd say the stakes are higher, but then a Twinkie would no doubt disagree.
I have heard a lot of people talking about this book and it definitely lived up to the hype. I can't go into a lot of it because of spoilers, but just know this isn't your typical YA book.
And while I went into the book thinking that I had it all figured out there were several twists that blind sided me and I loved every minute of it, so much that I was sad when it ended.
If you told me that I would shed happy tears over a book where the main character eats people I'd probably tell you that you were Cracked.

But now its happened and I have no regrets.

The ableist language & ignorance in this book is complete bullshit. Fuck this author for choosing ignorance & hate.
BLEH.. I could easily just stop this review after that. Anyhow, it was a good read.

It isn't a book I plan on rereading again though. This one had so much potential with a character like Meda... I hope the next instalment will give me my soul-sucking-evil-skull-cracking Meda back, pretty please...

Ok this book is just amazing. I really think it deserves more credit!
It has humor in it, a little bit twisted I might add, it has unexpected plot twists and the storyline in general is just really good.
Who knew being a half-demon could be so entertaining? I just love love love the sarcasm and the funny descriptions our protagonist gives us, and the moral conflicts she has is delicious.
I actually got angry for her part when people put her in a box, or tell her to be good or bad. I mean, she's BOTH! Sometimes her good side wins, sometimes her bad side takes over. Either way, it's always unexpected.
Give it a read, it's a really easy, nice read.

I'm still on a mission to thin out my immense tbr pile that started with my decision to pick my reads based on the date I'd first added them to my GR to-read shelf.
Number one was a success.
Will I be lucky twice in a row? Stay tuned to find out.

It turns out I wasn't all that lucky, after all. Meh.
This definitely was unique but im not all that enthusiastic about it so far. I'll probably pick it up again some other time but for now it belongs to the DNF shelf. ariana grande voice thank you, next.
#PenguinOnATBRMission: book #2
◾this hashtag is something I self-indulgently created for fun when I decided to thin out my immense tbr list as a new years resolution starting from books I added on GR back in 2017/2018/2019those I added more recently will be shelved normally. So please feel free to check out the shelf with the same name to check out how it went with previous books, to keep up with this insanely over-hyped adventure I got myself into or to simply share with another overdoing, picky, messy reader your very own reading experience. Happy reading and stay penguin-y!◾

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. Well written and a very good story. Looking forward to the second (and forthcoming third) in this series!
Meda's voice was fresh and this story was rather novel and different. Recommend!
Overall i really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and different to many young adults/children's literature that I've read for a while. I really like Meda as a character. She wasn't your typical female protagonist and proved that she could be just as bad ass as your favourite action hero. I also liked the relationship development between her and Jo. However My favourite character was Uri. His innocence and blind faith for whats right was beautiful and i just loved the popcorn scenes between Meda and Uri. He didn't deserve what happened to him. I would recommend this book for a quick engaging read.
