I bought a copy of this book after reading a stellar review from Anya at On Starships and Dragonwings. Check out her review. If that doesn’t make you want to read the book, I don’t know what will!

I loved Cracked. The main character, Meda, was such an enjoyable narrator. She was sassy, snarky, and extremely hilarious. Her style of narration had me so entertained and it sucked me into the book immediately. I got used to it, so she wasn’t quite as funny towards the end, but I still totally appreciated the way she saw things.

The adventure was action packed and I really liked the story. I loved how the bad guy was sort of Meda herself. It was a refreshing twist on the paranormal genre with a hilarious narrator who isn’t innocent or sweet. I wanted to know more about her life and why she was part demon and what that meant, so I was invested in her story the entire time. I enjoyed watching her make more connections and figure out who she really was. Her friendships were rocky and weird, but very entertaining. Jo was a tough girl and I kind of loved watching the two of them become friends. The chemistry between Jo and Chi was awesome and also entertaining, as they didn’t really know what to do with each other besides make comments and argue.

I definitely recommend Cracked and I can’t wait to read more of the series. Meda made me laugh out loud so many times, even when her life was in danger. It was so much fun to read, while being mysterious, intriguing, and action packed at the same time.

“And Jo’s so violent and angry, if she had any other career, it could only be at the DMV.”

“I get cranky when I haven’t eaten. You wouldn’t like to see me cranky. ‘Hangry,’ Mom called it – although when she called me that I was too hangry to appreciate her cleverness.”

Wow - this book was just terrific! I started reading Cracked a couple of weeks ago, but had to take a break because three library books came in at once. I'm glad I waited so I could take my time and really enjoy this.

Andromeda ("Meda") is half-human, half demon. She hungers for human souls, but tries to only take the bad ones. She also sees ghosts, and they help point her to the most deserving victims.

We first find her in an insane asylum where she has her sight set on a couple of orderlies who have taken advantage of many patients, resulting in at least one patient's death. She's interrupted by a few full-fledged demons, who are then chased off by a couple of Crusaders (aka, demon hunters). They don't know she's part-demon, and encourage her to join them back at their home base. She stays with them until the demons come after her, forcing her to run.

This book was fast-paced, with outstanding characters and an engaging plot. Not only was Meda awesomely smart and snarky, but she also was generally good (you can almost forget she is part-demon). And I really liked the Crusaders - Chi, Jo, and especially, Uri.

There were some interesting revelations, and this book had a great ending. I'm definitely in for the next one!

3.5 stars. Really funny!
But I guess I was in the mood for something more complex.
(I feel like the book deserves more stars, though)

Lots of potential, i liked the characters and general story. bit predictable, but thats YA and thats why i adore it.
the writing at times was a bit off (cringey even). but overall ok.
onto the next one

Chi’s spinal column is inches from my mouth. It screams, “Bite me!” I don’t, though. He’s driving.

Hilarious and poetic? Yes, please. The writing is darkly elegant in its deep moments and sharp and witty with its funny ones. I had no problem following the story and had fun reading Meda's narrations. So funny!

Jo and Chi were the typical sort of love-hate (mostly from Jo) relationship type, but the way it was handled wasn't too suffocating. And yay no romance! (Although I have this inkling suspicion that a certain someone might reappear in future installments).

Meda is a sociopath. At least she was in the first part, but she suddenly developed feelings, which I guess is crucial to the story, but I couldn't help but be worried that she'd suddenly turn into this human-loving, emotion-feeling, human. Luckily she's not showing any symptoms yet, so fingers crossed.

I do not easily give out five star ratings for books. However I did not for one second hesitate giving this book that rating. This is easily one of my favorite YA books EVER. So do yourself a favor and add this book to your to-read bookshelf immediately. The main character, Meda, is quite frankly hysterically sarcastic among many other wonderfully original attributes. I want to be her best friend in real life. In addition to the most awesome protagonist ever, this book breaks all the usual YA tropes such as: girl falls in love with the first cute boy she meets in the book; girl hates all other girls; girl has approximately zero true "flaws"; no major characters get injured/killed; the good guys are 100% good; etc, etc. I could keep going. This book is just fantastic. Go read it. You'll love it.

I love everyone and everything in that book
But Jesus, what happened to Armand man I need to know
And my baby Uri
Chi and Jo are beautiful man OTP
Meda is perfect
I love it

4.5/5*

I've been really looking forward to reading this book for such a long time, and having seen some absolutely brilliant reviews on it, I couldn't resist any longer. This book was absolutely brilliant! It was so witty, clever and - despite the subject - very realistic. Honestly, I absolutely fell in love with the character of Meda. I loved the inner monologue that we got with all of the activities taking place around here, it was hysterical. She's snarky, snide and brilliant to read about. Definitely one of my favorite female characters that I've read this year!

I finished this book yesterday and it was the most perfect read for Halloween. It contained a lot of dark humor, battles and demons - there isn't much more you can ask for in a Halloween read! I felt fully immersed in the world created by Eliza Crewe and was harshly brought back to reality every time I closed the book. Throughout the entire book I was fascinated to see where it was going and how Meda's character was going to develop. The plot complicates with the introduction of Jo, Uri and Chi - Templars who are training to be Crusaders. Templars are those that hunt demons in order to prevent them from murdering innocents. This is a problem as Meda - a half-demon - befriends them in order to discover more of her past.

This deception on the part of Meda is written so well. I love her snarky and sarcastic inner commentary and found myself laughing out loud throughout the book. She is such a cheeky but brilliant character; I can't wait to read more from her. One of the great things is that there is no love triangle. In fact, romance plays a very small part in Meda's life. It was great to see a female character fight her way through her battles without pining after somebody. I loved the relationships that developed between our four main characters, though. It was so well written and believable. Meda doesn't instantly turn into a good guy - she remains a demon throughout the book. It's like a breath of fresh air to be able to keep out antihero!

I absolutely loved this book, one of the best Strange Chemistry ones that I've read so far. It's dark, enticing, laughter inducing; a page-turner and I just couldn't get enough of it. I cannot wait to see what else Meda has in store for us in the next book - hurry up next book!
