The Seekers is book 28 in the Krewe Hunters series by Heather Graham. I have never read anything by this author but my dad raves about her so when given the opportunity to read this book I jumped at the chance. Although this is along way into a long series I had absolutely no trouble following the story and the characters. In fact I feel the need to now go back to where it all began and read the series from the start. For me this was a very quick and fun read but not without its drama and gore. I really enjoyed my first Heather Graham read.

The Krewe Hunters are a group of agents which special abilities - they see and feel things that other people don't. After the brutal and ritualistic murder of a female FBI agent who was working on a kidnapping of a teenager, the Hunters are called in for their expertise. The victim was found in the basement of an old haunted house where historical non fiction writer Kerri is working with a group of ghost hunters on a web series. The crime scenes shows similarities with murders for the 1920's in the very same house. A story of paranormal activity, ghosts, murder and even a love story. This book has something for everyone and is definitely worth picking up.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harelquin MIRA US and Canada for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

3.5 stars. The Seekers kept me turning the pages—and constantly rethinking whom I suspected in the grisly murder of an FBI agent. As usual in a Krewe of Hunters novel, the present-day mystery is tied to events in the past, the hero and heroine can both see ghosts, and their attraction is nearly instantaneous… but this time, said attraction was offset by their initial irritation with each other. Both Keri and Joe are eminently likable, and despite their mutual prickliness, I had no question where things were headed; it was more a matter of when than if. I particularly liked Joe’s respectful, even courteous protectiveness. It isn’t machismo or alpha-male posturing; he treats Keri like an intelligent partner whose strengths and training lie elsewhere.

Sometimes the books in this series are a little too graphic or creepy for me, and this one came close a few times, particularly in the descriptions of what had been done to Agent Castro, and to the inn’s guests in the past. (shudder)

I also had a few reservations when it came to believability. As good a cop as Joe Dunhill is, he hasn’t been through the FBI academy yet, so he’s not an official member of the Krewe; nor is he still on the Savannah police force. (He was a secondary character in [b:The Summoning|41854978|The Summoning (Krewe of Hunters #27)|Heather Graham|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1548406288l/41854978._SY75_.jpg|65338487].) The police and FBI can both be sticklers about turf, jurisdiction, and civilian involvement. The Krewe are a bit more laid back, but local cops and other FBI units might not be be. So I was surprised that Joe wasn’t challenged more often for acting as a full member of the investigation. There were also some logical leaps and assumptions that I’m not sure real agents would make, particularly in drawing parallels between the past and present. (That, too, is typical of this series; I’ve learned to live with it.)

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the suspenseful ride and the just-creepy-enough atmosphere, plowing through The Seekers at top speed to find out “what happens next.” And by the scenes just before the denouement, I had pegged almost all the characters’ guilt or innocence correctly, which is always gratifying. I like books that can keep me guessing, but I also like being able to figure out at least some of the mystery myself. The Seekers delivered on both counts.

I have now read the first book and the latest book in the Krewe of Hunters series and I think I have a grasp on what these are and how they'll fall into my reading. Diving into this book with only the knowledge of Phantom Evil, I will say that you are definitely able to read it as a standalone, but even a bit of background knowledge helps as so many elements from book 1 reappeared in book 2.

The fact that Graham takes the time to write these each as related but able to be read alone means that there is a bit of slow, dense introduction. It took a while to settle into the story because of all of the characters that needed to be introduced as well as the concepts of the Krewe and the elements of the mystery.

I really liked Joe but I wasn't enitre sold on Kerri. I like the blend in these books of paranormal, straightforward mystery and romance, but in this one, the balance was a little off. I actually wanted more romance and a little more from the characters. So far, too, I've liked the meat of the mystery, but am always a little confused by the resolution of it.

That all said, I absolutely fly through these books. They are perfect for peppering into readathons, taking on vacations or reading at the beach.

Another great read, another great mystery, and I really enjoyed these characters! I can't wait for the next book, I think Carl the actor from these past two books might be the hero...

Really interesting murder mystery. The romance is a side plot which was perfect for this story! This was my first Krewe book, but I will certainly seek out others!

Ms Graham can surely write a book that will keep you hooked till the end and make you turn pages as fast as you can.
I read this book in two settings and I loved it.
It's darker than other I read in this series, some parts are perfect for a horror book and I think I could sleep with the lights on.
I loved every minute of it, the fleshed out cast of characters, the dark and bleak setting, the engrossing plot.
I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I know, I know, I keep saying this is my favourite book in the Krewe series, but it is honestly not my fault that Heather Graham constantly improves herself and writes better and better books. This one, as you might have guessed, is my favourite!!!! I wish there was a tv series about the characters in this book. Dallas, Joe and Carl made a return, characters from the last book, with Joe being the main character in this one and it was perfect. Nothing to criticise at all! Kerri is a fantastic main character and she and Joe have this off the charts chemistry. It was probably the easiest of all relationships in the series, so far, definitely the funniest. I wish I could have a spin off with Dallas, Joe, Kerri, Kristi and even Carl! So fun!
