I started this novel in verse on audiobook and really disliked Aafiyah and her privilege. But switching to print and watching her grown and learn from her adversity made this one to recommend.

I might have enjoyed this middle grade novel in verse more if I hadn't read it on the heels of two novel in verse books that hit my favorites list. I think it is a really well done book, but it didn't have the same emotional impact for me as some others. I liked how the main character was flawed, but also has a lot of character growth throughout the book. One nice thing about this book is how it was divided into shorter sections throughout so it was like having chapters rather than large chapters or individual poems as stopping places.

This was really great. So full of heart. I love when a book in verse that uses so few words can be so full of imagery and story. I will definitely recommend this one.
