Huh. A Jurgens book I actually loved?

He’s really not my favorite writer, but he nailed the “home life” of Superman.

My only real gripe with this is how many plot threads there were. We really didn’t need Hyathis or the telekinetic guy. Sure, they’re probably setting something else up, but they definitely hindered and otherwise really fun and sweet Lois & Clark story.

I’m excited to continue and read all the Rebirth Superman books.

This is an interesting storyline indeed. The thought of having two Superman's in the same world whereas one works secretly, having the knowledge of things which might happen and stop them beforehand? That's super cool and comes with its set of challenges. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading this and was super fun as well.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. Original Clark & Lois on the New-52 Earth. They are in hiding as to not reveal the fact that they were placed on this Earth as a result of "Convergence". I don't recall the Convergence storyline, so I don't quite remember how they ended up on the New-52 Earth.

Clark & Lois have a young son, Jonathan, who they are trying to protect. After the New-52 Superman was outed by Lois Lane, they decided that they needed to stay in hiding and not reveal themselves to the world. Lois is a journalist working on a book under the pseudonym "Author X" about a large crime syndicate Intergang. Intergang wants to stop the release of her book and attempts to kidnap her and Jonathan. Clark/Superman (in a black costume reminiscent of his suit from the "Return of Superman" storyline) comes to their rescue.

Clark is also dealing with the return of Hank Henshaw to Earth after being away for years on a space mission. Due to his dealings with Henshaw from his Earth, Clark takes him to his Fortress of Solitude to see how he was affected by his travels. While there, Henshaw is controlled by another "prisoner" in the Fortress, Blanque, in his attempt to escape and wreak havoc across the world.

It is revealed that Henshaw brought back part of the Oblivion Stone, which a new threat, Hyathis, wants. There is a typical brawl between Superman & Hyathis, with our man in black winning (kind 0f). Hyathis disappears with an "Until we meet again" exit.

In the end, Jonathan learns that his dad is Superman from another Earth, and that he also has powers. Clark gives Jonathan his read Superman cape from his original suit. Jonathan ties it around his shoulders and attempts, succesfully, to hover in the air. Just a glimpse of the powers he will possess.

As I said, I enjoyed the story. The writing was good, but I feel comic book writers have a hard time writing kids. The kids always seem to have a larger and more mature vocabulary than I would expect. Even some of the conversations between adults in this one seemed stiff at times. Lee Weeks are was great and kept the story moving.

This story leads right into the DC Comics' Rebirth, with the original Superman back in continuity, along with Lois and Jonathan. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the characters.

When the New 52 Superman died, a Superman from pre-flashpoint revealed himself as having been there the whole time.

SpoilerSynopsis: Lois and Clark follows pre-flashpoint Superman and his family during the time in the New 52 when they were actively keeping themselves hidden from the world. After seeing that the new Justice League and Superman are capable, Clark wears the black Superman suits and goes underground (sometimes, quite literally), helping out where he can, but keeping his existence a secret from the world. Lois is writing books under the name Author X, exposing various criminal organizations. Also, Clark and Lois have a young son named Jon, who is unaware of his parents true identities. Clark saves Henshaw, in hopes that his interference will prevent Henshaw from being Cyborg-Superman. Someone named Hyathis comes after Henshaw because he has half of the Oblivion Stone. While Clark is handling that situation, Intergang has discovered the identity of Author X and kidnaps Lois and Jon. Jon's powers emerge and he saves both of them. It ends with Clark giving Jon his red cape as Jon learns how to fly.

Not much to say about this one. It's pretty straight forward. The family dynamic between the Kents is among one of my favorites things about Rebirth. Lois and Clark have always been one of my favorite comic couples and I love having a book that explores their relationship. Jon is a great addition as well. It would have been easy for Dan Jurgens to make Jon annoying, given that he is a child, but Jon's characterization is excellent. He has his outbursts, but he reacts to the news of his father being Superman in a realistic way.

Another thing I loved was Lois. I loved that she was still a journalist even if she couldn't work at the Daily Planet, on account that that world already had a Lois Lane. Despite that she has a family, she still needs that rush of following a story and I dig that. Clark is great, too. I love reading about Superman being a father and a husband. He's sweet and protective, but not overly protective. Jurgens really nailed the characters.

I wouldn't say that this is a must read for Rebirth, but if you're curious as to what pre-flashpoint Superman and Lois were doing during the New 52, check it out.

So this was the first Superman-focused comic I read, and I really liked it, the art was okay, nothing special, but it wasn't bad either. And the story was great, loved all the main characters. Can't wait to see more of this pre-new 52 Superman and Jon in the future.
