Reading this in 2025, the very year it’s set, felt more than a bit eerie (and makes sense why it’s been popping up a lot lately). Butler’s vision is hauntingly visionary, offering a dystopia that feels uncomfortably close to our own reality, yet anchored by hope, resilience, and radical faith. Lauren is the kind of protagonist who lingers long after the final page. It reminded me of one of my all-time favorites, The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk, both explore survival, vision, and spiritual revolution with fierce heart. A powerful read I’m still digesting.
