So good it made me cry. I couldn't help it, it was just that amazing and heart-wrenching.

Hm. I have mixed feelings about this. Am I currently battling end-of-book rage because WHY do the ending like that? Yes. There are a lot of loose ends, especially with the heavier topics addressed. However, did the book make me emotional for various reasons as well as make me feel like I was a teenager again? Also, yes. Things got intense, but there was also such a sweetness to it. I just don’t know how to feel right now.

I could not put this book down! I had heard how good it was but hear that about a lot of books and it kind of goes in one ear and out the other. When it came to this book, it was no exaggeration. I loved how it was an innocent story of a first love coupled with way more drama than any two kids should have to deal with. I only wish it kept going- sequel maybe?!

I had tried listening to this awhile back and ended up not listening to it consequently so I ended up putting it on hold. This summer I decided that I wanted to read the physical book. I flew through the first 100 pages of the book but then I felt like the rest of the book was kind of the same.

I know this will popular with the girls.

I would've given it a *4* but the ending really put me off. I liked the characters, the writing style and felt it was too rushed when it gets to the end. I like how realistic the characters were and in some ways relatable. Somehow though, I didn't *feel* the book
I initially had high expectations cuz of the hype around it and maybe that's one of the reasons why I'm a little disappointed.

All in all, it's a quick read ( at least for me) so I'd say, better read it and judge it yourself ;)

I chose this book because it was recommended to me by my hometown public librarian. I expected the book to be a generic, summer romance. For some reason I thought that the book may be a new rendition of Romeo and Juliet. I soon learned I was mistaken about it being a typical, summer romance book. The book didn't exactly make me feel hopeful for love like most teen romance novels do. Eleanor's life was too broken to be an average teen romance. While I was wrong in that expectation, Eleanor in Park could at least be considered "star crossed lovers". Overall this book had a lot more weight to it than I expected it to have.

This book took me a long time to get through. I think that I liked it, but the book really tugged at my heart in ways I didn't think that it would. When I finally finished the book, I cried because I would never know what became of Eleanor and Park. The whole time I read this book I was disgusted by the sappiness of Eleanor and Park's relationship, but it did make me think back to my time in middle school and high school when I was "deeply in love" before I even knew what a relationship meant. I struggle with who to recommend this book to because I'm not sure it shows a realistic view of what love is. However, if I was to recommend it to anyone it would be high school students. I think the book would be relatable and age appropriate for those in grade 10-12. More importantly, the book exposes the sad reality of what it may be like to live in an abusive home.

Warnings:

Alcohol: Alcohol is spoken of throughout the book. Eleanor's step father is an alcoholic and Eleanor and Park's peers drink it regularly. Eleanor drinks alcohol once in the book.

Sex: There are some explicit scenes in the novel that explained detailedly. Although the entire act is never completed, it is mentioned, and considered.

R & R: Eleanor comes from an abusive home where her mother, brothers, and sister are treated very poorly. This may be difficult for some audiences.

Language: There a colorful use of language in this book.

Violence: Although not directly stated Eleanor's mom is beaten throughout the book. At the end of the novel Eleanor is threatened and hunted down by her step-father. Although he never finds her, it is implied that she will be severely injured or possibly even killed if her step-father were to find her.
