This book was incredibly relatable to me. Though I wasn't an actor, I worked in theatre for 15 years and completely understand that feeling of crushing a job interview only to be devastated when someone else got it. Working freelance is simultaneously a blow to your ego and a way to toughen up quickly. I also related to the naivete of being from the Midwest and navigating New York as a young adult. I think back about that time and shake my head a bit, but I wouldn't be me without it.

Well-written fun.

I listened to the audiobook version and I thoroughly enjoyed his musings and reflections about his life. I admire his humility at pointing out his flaws and imperfections to show how he got to national stardom. He’s super funny, very slick with the pen, and is not afraid to be honest about his downfalls. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to go into Broadway as Andrew’s journey is truly admirable.
