oh that boy willy crazy crazy! coming up with unattainable expectations for his golden boy who he pampered too much... i think this is a better analysis of father figures and family relations than anything to do with capitalism, short and entertaining, shouting and affairs, suicide and insurance plans

Quite the metaphor of the American dream, how some people get so embroiled in their own lies they can't ever recognize the truth anymore, and quite a bit of family drama.

A dysfunctional family, the American Dream and Alzheimer's disease makes for a beautifully depressing read. It's hard to write characters that make the reader feel so strongly as Miller does, even overtly, let alone with such subtlety. I- there are simply no words for it.

If you want to explore the themes but in a better story, read "A Long Day's Journey Into Night" by Eugene O'Neill.
