Seminal American Play of the reality behind the "American Dream". While it's themes are still relevant today, it's a bit too dramatized for my liking, maybe down to the fact that I'm not American and the dialogue seems unrealistic to me!

This is a sad play, no way around it. That much should be obvious from the title. I think perhaps this play moved me as much as any books ever do. I think I would like to see it performed some time.

“I am not a leader of men, Willy, and neither are you. You were never anything but a hard-working drummer who landed in the ash can like all the rest of them! I’m one dollar an hour, Willy! I tried seven states and couldn’t raise it. A buck an hour! Do you gather my meaning? I’m not bringing home any prizes any more, and you’re going to stop waiting for me to bring them home!
WILLY, directly to Biff: You vengeful, spiteful mutt! Biff breaks from Happy. Willy, in fright, starts up the stairs. Biff grabs him. BIFF, at the peak of his fury: Pop, I’m nothing! I’m nothing, Pop. Can’t you understand that? There’s no spite in it any more. I’m just what I am, that’s all.”

Hmm. Don’t know what to make of this one. I need to see it on the stage. As far as the text is concerned it did not do as much for me as The Crucible. With that being said, I believe it is an important read. This review may change over time.
