I love books that observe humans as if it wasn't written by a human. It's very cute. Poignant to write about AI and a distant / near future where people are so detached from others and don't have a concept of what loneliness is. I loved the mc, I wish I had no inhibitions like her. That being said there's something missing in this that couldn't be fixed, down to the concept as a whole but I’d be interested in whatever else Dyroff writes.

I don’t normally read anything sci-fi-esque but I enjoyed this. I was thinking about it for many days after.

I give this book a solid 4 stars.
I like that it's offbeat in its storytelling. I like that we follow a character, Lee, who feels like a blank slate because even though she's been in the world for 20+ years, she hasn't experienced much. While Lee believes she's not influenced by anything and is living a life she is proud of, the truth of the matter is that she dived head first into being the best researcher because she felt seen and felt that she had someone to believe in her.
With her new job — she didn't want in the first place — she has to feed a mix of data to a new AI that will help people with *loneliness*. She has to shake up her routine of researching to actually experiencing the world around her. It shakes her to her core, but as the reader we get to explore all these new experiences with Lee. We laugh, we cry, we giggle in embarrassment, and we feel sad because many of these experiences and the emotions that come with them are commonplace.
But the question for Lee is if she can cure loneliness and what will it take? It's really nice to see the conclusion that Lee makes.
I related to this book a lot because it reflects our own world. New technology is making it's way to the market making us feel like AI could replace all of our needs and wants, but humans are social people so we need other humans to survive. How can humans continue to connect outside of the screen?

Not mad I read it but I was underwhelmed. I liked the idea of a near-future dystopian setting where technology makes life easier but also makes it harder to connect, and musing on whether AI/tech is the answer to that. But mostly I felt bad for the overachieving protagonist who wants so badly to be validated, important and worthy, but has little life experience and no framework for processing emotions.
