Thus is number 12 of the series for me, and another great read.
I am loving how many women this series is telling us about, by the way, and this one about the great pilot Amelia Earhart.
An inspiring read, in an inspiring series.

Okay I love Amelia Earhart so I was really excited about this book in the series but man was I left feeling disappointed. There just wasn't enough accurate detail. It seemed like the book just skimmed over the important pieces of Amelia's story.

The Little People, Big Dreams series from Frances Lincoln is a series telling the stories of well known women, and the dreams they had as children, showing that children can one day achieve their dreams, no matter what they might be. They cover the hardships these women faced, but keep the stories appropriate for the readership. Each story also includes a short biography with photographs of the women.

Amelia Earhart's story tells how she always wanted to fly, took lessons, and broke records, being the first woman to reach 14,000 feet, and the first woman to fly across the Atlantic - at first with a pilot and a mechanic, and later, solo. It also covers how she formed the Ninety-Nines, and organisation that supported female pilots. We also hear of her attempt to fly around the world, and how she and her plane disappeared.

* I was sent this for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review *

This is my favourite of this series (Little People, Big Dreams) which is currently out becuase not only is it a beautifully illustrated book with some truly lovely layouts and spreads, but it's also the story of a lady I knew nothing about. These books are designed to be read by children to introduce them to some wonderful people who did amazing things and give them a very brief overview of their lives. Not knowing anything about Amelia Earhart and reading this meant I found out enough to want to find out more (she seems like a fabulous woman) and that was truly exciting for me.

Besides that, the artwork by Mariadiamantes is really warm and the style she uses to make the colours pop and the images stand out is very soft yet beautiful. I would highly recommend checking out this book with your children (or just as you appreciate artwork) as it's a lovely read. 4*s
