Another strong book in the series, I don't personally think it's as strong as the show but that won't stop me reading more!

Onto book #4!

Definitely my favorite so far. I guessed the ending but I'm not mad about it.

Here's the thing about Smith's books: if I didn't have an emotional attachment to the characters before coming back to these books, I wouldn't have finished them. I push through because it's nostalgic, not because I think it's great, or really even that impressive.

The climax of this book might be the best climax out of the three I've read so far, but that doesn't mean it's done well. It's just the best out of what I've read.

Elena supposedly has come to love Damon, but I missed it. There isn't much that happens between them in this book that I think constitutes her loving him. It felt so out of the blue when it came up, it was like it made sense to Smith, but not to me. There was something in her head that she didn't put in the pages.

Katherine's story was also very disappointing. She was allegedly this immense power, but all she did was tie everyone up and then got tackled?

Despite my complaints, I'm still going to continue with the series, so how valid are they?

There isn't an "I wish I didn't spend my time reading this book" option, so I'll keep it at a one. I am so incredibly grateful to the people at tthe CW who made this show not suck, because it could've sucked so bad. When we learn about this big bad that comes to town, it's just stupid. I am mad that this is considered a novel. See all the other notes for this series, because I don't want to be like L.J. Smith, in that she could have just said "bad shit happens, everyone sucks, and then it gets resolved (kinda)" for the whole thing. Yuck. Ok, maybe I should give it some more credit. The ending actually did surprise me a little bit. So we'll say it's 1.5 stars instead of the "I wish there was a 0 star ranking" that I've been giving everything else. There comes a point where you're only reading something to say that you finished it, and this was that filler book.
