He’s not for you, I reminded myself. None of them ever will be.

I was warned I would need tissues for this one. I did not take said warning seriously and ended up with a wet shirt collar. Now I'm normally not a crier, but I'm also 8 months pregnant so take that as you will.

This was a highly anticipated story from the Wilde clan and it has slipped into the top spot as my favorite in the series. Doc and Grandpa (Liam and Wes) have been a rock for the Wilde clan throughout the entire book series and I never would have imagined all they went through to get to be the beloved grandparents I read about.

Their story began in Vietnam while both were serving their country and spans decades. Liam began this story married to his sweetheart back home. Wes's story began after already having served for 10 yrs and he is firmly in the closet. What happens next is a deep bond of friendship that can only be forged in the dangerous situations they found themselves in over seas.

Throughout the years Wes becomes the rock for Liam. He never wavers and can always be counted on. All the while being silently and irrevocably in love with him. But even if he doesn't get everything he truly wants from Liam, there is one thing he does get that is almost as precious: A family.

It was beautiful seeing how amazed Wes was at being loved and cared for by Liam's wife, children, and parents. He had been alone for so long and never imagined a future where he would have people who cared for him. And then there was Liam himself. Not only did he have his loving family, but he also had his best friend by his side; the one man who he trusted above all others.

What follows is life. The ups and the downs. A series of events both good and bad that eventually leads them to each other. It leads them to the path of becoming Doc and Grandpa. To a decades long life spent loving one another. It was a true joy to read their story and if your a fan of the Wilde clan I highly recommend.

You are my home, Liam. The one I never thought I’d be lucky enough to have.

I feel like this book deserves more than 5 stars.
For me, this was the strongest love connection between two MCs that I've read in any romance book so far. Liam and Wes are fucking soulmates. I devoured this book, and honestly, I could read a thousand pages more about them just living their lives. Because everything they've been through to reach their HEA makes me ache and grasp at any intimate affection between these two wonderful men.

Tropes: age gap, friends to lovers, grumpy sunshine, gay for you, pining

Weston (32) meets Liam (22) during the Vietnam war, and for Wes it's love at first sight, but Liam is a straight man with a wife and kids back in Texas. They get assigned to the same medevac flight crew and the friendship that unfolds between them is unparalleled.
Wes feels this protectiveness over Liam from the first moment he laid eyes on him and he makes it his purpose to keep Liam safe. Liam is this ray of sunshine cinnamon roll who is the only one who can thaw Wes's grumpiness and put a smile on his face. They go through some tragedies together during this war which makes them bond even more. Liam leans into Wes's strength and protectiveness, he admires him, and cherishes him as his best friend, even though he feels things he can't explain and ignores. Eventually their paths separate but they never forget about each other, until one day their paths cross again.

This is one of the rare books where I loved every side character. I cared for Betsy so much. Finally a woman in a mm romance that isn't bitchy and whiny and a cardboard stereotype.
I ached for Weston and what happened during his childhood and how things unfolded in the end.

The writing was beautiful, there wasn't a single moment where I was bored. I also appreciate the research the author did to write this, I sure as hell couldn't have done it. Well, maybe not for army stuff anyway.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions, I laughed and cried, and cried some more. There was a part in the story where it felt like the author was stabbing my heart over and over, but at least she made up for it. And let me tell you, it was totally worth it.

I love this book. I fucking love Wes and Liam. I'm still crying when I think about them. I think one must be a heartless donut not to like this book, but that's just my opinion.

*This story can be read as a standalone, (I haven't read any of the other books yet), although the epilogue made me realize how badly I want to read the rest of the series and meet all the other characters.

An epic tale. Listened to this on audio whilst working and actually I think I didn't appreciate how good it was as a consequence. So many historical details about the forces, Vietnam, small town USA in the 60s and beyond. And the unbreakable bond between the MC was palpable but not so simple that it was inevitable. Complications along the way made this even more interesting

I adored this book. It was SO good to finally get to hear the story between Doc and Grandpa. I actually cried during the wedding scene. Love Love Love. The entirely of BOTH series is wonderful.

This was everything. A bit of a slow burn. But it was just so perfect, the pace, the story, the characters, how it all unfolded. I think it's fair to say that this is Lennox's best book, or best book I've read by her.

They felt so real and grounded. This is a book that I will read over and over again.

Liam and Weston. UGH!. I don't know what to say. I listened to this book, And Michael Dean did a fantastic job bringing them to life.

I loved the beginning so much. I loved when Doc and Major meet and how taken with each other they were. This is the first I’ve read about two men meeting and falling for each other, in this case Major first with Doc falling later, in Vietnam. Something I hope to find more of. I appreciated how Doc felt, even if he didn’t understand his feeling til later in life.

Then once the two get stateside they gradually begin a friendship. I liked that Doc’s wife appreciated Major, knowing full well his feelings. A bit predictable of an ending for her, I am happy to overlook it and carry on. Once she’s passed, Doc begins to develop his feelings for Major. This I also adored. Doc loved his wife and never did anything more than think of Major as his best friend, never thinking beyond why Major feels like home, why he gets angry when people flirt with him or even why he always notices how strong and powerful Major is. Once he walks in on Major getting head, it’s over for anything other than the two being more than besties.

I just really loved how these two become who we’ve fallen in love with in previous books as Doc and Grandpa. I didn’t like the epilogue at all, but the whole book up until then was golden.

I really like and many times love this series. Especially Grandpa and Doc, who’ve always been the rocks of the family and rocks for each other.

Two men meet in Vietnam and become family to one another.
One is a gay man and the other is married. One has family, the other ran from his. When they both make it home, Major comes to live on the ranch Doc’s family owns. After several years, Doc’s wife is diagnosed with cancer and she passed away.
Once the family changes, Doc begins to acknowledge that his feelings for Major are not platonic. Their love story moves over decades and leads to a huge, loving family.
