Such a great book! It was a beautiful look into the depression, dust bowl and early wwii years. The characters were really well developed and I enjoyed watching woody find his way in the world. The giraffes represented so much: mutual trust, friendship, caring, commitment....

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. Historical fiction account of trucking the first giraffes to the San Diego zoo. The giraffes survived a hurricane at sea, and then survived challenging travels across the US from New York to San Diego during the depression. A runaway orphan, a giraffe transfixed photographer and a zoo employee successfully make the journey and delivery. Many adventures along the way.
