It took a lot for me to get into at the beginning. It was quite slow. But when Teddy and Ruthie’s relationship started it really went from 0 to 100 real quick and I fell in love with their characters and their relationship. If you’re a sucker for
happy endings
then this book is for you. Would’ve gotten a 5 star if it wasn’t so much of a slow burn.

This was a super sweet book and I enjoyed reading about the entire cast of characters. Teddy was fkn adorable and Ruthie is such a sweetheart. Melanie might need a bit of an ass whooping for being insensitive but I loved her as well. Aggie and Renata are delightful.
As usual I was deeply disappointed by the existence of one singular sex scene in which it was mostly fade to black. I mean it was cute but details would be nice since this is a whole as ADULT book.

This was a light, warm-hearted read! Cheesy? Maybe! But fun, warm and loveable nonetheless. I related to this book a lot as I am a very "sheltered" person who, just like Ruthie Midona, never really seemed to "fit-in" or get along with people her own age. Never really felt young. This is a predictable, yet very fun romance between the "good little church girl" and the "bad boy." There is depth, though, to Ruthie - an understanding of who she is that might not be translated just from the outside view. I will say, there was some information unearthed throughout the book that I was not expecting! Great lighthearted summer read!

(Rating might change later)

The romance developed a bit too quickly for my liking, and Ruthie had a jealousy on her that drove me absolutely nuts. But aside from that, I liked her, and Teddy was positively cute. Did he sometimes have zero sense for personal boundaries? Yes. Would some of his actions have been labeled creepy if he weren't conventionally attractive? Also yes. But there was something about him that was just so pure and sweet that it was hard to dislike him. So this wasn't my favourite thing, but I still enjoyed myself.

I’m sorry, but this was really not good.
The characters were massively unbelievable and just plain silly. A 25 year old named Ruth ( going by Ruthie), who acts like a grandma?! With a literally chain for her glasses around her neck. Come on.

Theodore “Teddy” Prescott, some sort of long haired tattoo no good guy who actually has a kind heart and soul should have been the saving grace but even he was really poorly written.

Not to mention this weird rom-com is set on the grounds of a retirement village, where Ruthie works and lives. She spends her night watching Heaven Sent which is this book’s version of Seventh Heaven ( even with the fictional show having the main actor who plays the Reverend being a real life pedophile).

Teddy and Ruth have literally no chemistry, and it’s hard to feel that wasn’t intentional because even the romance scenes were filled with awkwardness.

Honestly, this just wasn’t it.
