So cute

I was surprised at how much of an effort it was to get through this, considering most of the chapters are between 3-5 minutes long.

Of the 200+ Brothers Grimm tales, only a few stood out. The rest were repetitive, to the point where I was almost questioning my sanity due to hearing essentially the same tale over and over again.

I'd recommend Grimm Tales for Young and Old by Philip Pullman if you wanted a more concise collection of fairytales.

The definitive collection. No other collection comes close to this one.

I don’t think I’ve ever read so many run on sentences before

I read this about a decade and a half ago. I seem to remember the Brothers being rather prejudiced against Jewish people. Apart from that, I enjoyed many of these macabre and silly tales.

I was reading the kindle version of this and so didn't get any of the illustrations. Either way I didn't really like this. Most of the stories were very boring. The only ones I really enjoyed were the one's I already knew. So I got less than nothing from reading this.

Classic and wonderful. Strange and interesting.

This compilation took me FOREVER to read. Did I keep putting it down and forgetting about it for months because honestly, it wasn't that good? Yes. Those may be fighting words with some, but I only speak the truth. I am the ultimate fairytale lover, but apparently classic fairytales are not enough for me. The Grimm Brothers stories are twisted and magical, filled with morals that would scare children from ever sleeping again, but ultimately, they all blurred together for me. All of the stories were the same, and honestly, if I had to read one more story about a boy named Hans, I was going to scream (was that the ONLY name German's had back then?). Overall, I wasn't anywhere near as blown away by these fairytales as I thought I would be, but I still love having this book in my collection.

A couple abuses a wish-giving fish so that the wife becomes Pope, naked dwarfs build shoes, a fiddler robs a man by forcing him to dance, a girl is rewarded for her loyal service with a golden shower (of gold), and the moral of a story about a partnership between a mouse and cat gone wrong is that life isn't fair, and then you die. Goodnight, kids!
