Okay, let me start off by saying this was a highly enjoyable book. Fast paced, action packed, and it kept my interest the entire time. I FLEW threw it. It had really good world building and setting the scene. AND the Xaden chapter OMG, also the plot twist, I did NOT see that coming. I've seen this book everywhere it has been SO hyped up so I was READY to dig into it. But, (and I hate this part in giving a review) I think my biggest issue with it is, there was every. single. popular. trope. thrown in to grab attention. And I mean it definitely did that. It blew the heck up because it has every single bullet point that is trending right now. It just wasn't super original. The whole book I kept thinking, this is giving me hunger games vibes, this is giving red queen vibes, etc., and I saw someone mention how it was like squid games but with a bunch of young hot people and it made me laugh because yes, that's what it is. I also get acotar/Tamlin/Rhys vibes with the dynamic here. Lastly, in the beginning, violet comes off as a teenager so the book came off as a YA book, which is fine I love a good YA book, but then there was like very aggressive spice and like crass language thrown in and AGAIN I love a good spicy book but the two together seemed a little conflicting? I feel like I just slammed this book, which wasn't my intention it was highly highly enjoyable too, I liked it. I'll read the whole series as it comes out. I think all the hype just made me be a little harsher on this one.

I was not able to put this book down. The pure roller-coaster of emotions sending me into shock then immediately pulling me back out. The twists and turns stunning me through every page. I bought the book out off the world building and dragons and stayed for the joy, heartbreak and exhilaration of the characters. This book is perfect if you like to feel like you are walking along side the main characters, feeling everything they feel. If I could read this again for the first time, I would in a heartbeat

this book had me giggling and swinging my feet at 3 a.m

Really strong start to a series; sadly the other follow-up books fail to match this same energy
adventurous mysterious tense fast-paced

I am SHOOK. To say the least. I did not for one second see that coming!!
