The dragons were cool so that’s what pushed it to a 3. I’m tired, though, of female protagonists whose only traits are being Special™ and being wildly attracted to the male protagonist. The relationship dynamics felt very reminiscent of 2010s YA.

So good omg. I knew I’d be obsessed since all I’ve heard is that it’s better than ACOTAR and I was very obsessed. I had to force myself to take breaks so I would pay more attention to the details because I was flying through it.
Really excited for iron flame and onyx storm now with the ending of this one. Debating reading other books in between just so I don’t finish the series too quick because I think the post series heart break will be much worse than finishing acotar was.
Like to joke that everyone loves a morally grey shadow daddy but it’s me, I’m everyone. They have my heart.

Are you kidding? This had me in a choke hold since the first chapter!
The character development is impeccable! This book made me laugh hard and cry even harder and the ending? God I can’t wait for the second book to come out.
Do it, just read the book. It’s worth it.

I'm amazed that the poor writing of this is not distracting to more people. The story is compelling, and I like that the FMC has a condition like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrom/or similar but ugh, the writing made it so hard to get through the first third (until the story was good enough to make me want to keep reading). I only pushed on by skipping ahead and reading for a little about halfway though and then circling back to the beginning. Please stop telling the reader how smart Violet is (especially in the beginning) and just show us that she is smart. It can be part of her identitiy, but let the reader decide. It shows that the author is not as smart as she thinks she is. The dialogue is also disappointing. If Violet is supposed to be so smart, make the dialogue more witty. I would have rather not been told so many times (at least once a chapter) in this book how remarkably smart Violet is. The author did not fully convince me.
I enjoyed the romance and the dragons, which is why I'm giving this a 3/5.
