all the bright places for sad gay girls 🤌🏻

all joke's aside, this was a devastating read. if you know, you know — as referenced above. despite its tragedy, i found it not really that compelling? so it's more a 3.5 rating than an actual 4, and i was torn just giving it a mere 3.

first of all, the writing needs a bit of polishing. despite being a surprisingly quick read (finish it in less than two days), i stumbled through the text because of the grammar and syntax, or was it just the writing style? either way, i had a bit of difficulty following the voice.

but the story itself wasn't bad. i like that we're actually in the shoes of someone witnessing their friend fall into madness. i like the mental health representation, found it quite accurate as someone who has experienced psychosis. however, i wished we could have seen more of hetty, because she was the most intriguing, and essential, part of the story. but we don't get to see much of her. it was mostly just ness fretting and yearning and thinking about her.

anyway, it wasn't bad. the rating was more objectivity on my part, not being entirely a literary fiction girlie. i enjoyed it, mostly
