This was a lovely read, the prose is beautiful and neat, and although not a lot is revealed, a lot is understood about the characters merely from the exchanges they had in the book. It is great how the author managed to encapsure such a deep, long-lasting relationship in such few words.

The only remark I might have is that as a fairytale, it is left very open and does not have an ending that clearly states a moral to the story. Upon analysis one interpretation could be discerned as putting one's health before a relationship with another, but it does still maintain a feeling of it being a first chapter, and not so much a single independent story.

Nonetheless, I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

There were a few scenes that I could vividly imagine being animated ghibli style.

Kan has such a talent for effortlessly fitting plot, character development, a sense of time and place, and queerplatonic love into one short story. I found myself so attached to the two MCs and was utterly transported to their world. I loved the love they had for one another and didn't want their story to end, yet here we are. This was just such an ingenious tale, with a clever ending and a smart title. The overarching theme of looking after yourself so that you can look after others was fantastic. I'm really looking forward to reading East Flows the River next.

A wonderful story of the love that exists for places, professions, and people. The relationship between Gong-Teon and Sam-Leuhng was absolutely beautiful. The passion they felt for their respective callings was breathtaking and felt so familiar. We need more aromantic tales like this.
