It's not often that the second book in a Trilogy eclipses the first, but here it is! Quirky, sad Jimmy was engaging, but Toby's calm strength and Ren's goodness are a lesson in the power of resilience.

Popsugar 2022: 26) A book with a misleading title

I like how she wrote in all three point of view perspectives, one each for Ren (first), Toby (third) and Adam One (second).

Full review to come after I've read Oryx and Crake, since I've decided to read these out of order. Not sure I'm a fan of the story yet, but I did end up quite liking the characters and the world of this series. Plus, Atwood's writing is just so masterful that reading some lines often feels like a punch to the throat.

I read a book between [b:Oryx and Crake|46756|Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy, #1)|Margaret Atwood|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327896599s/46756.jpg|3143431] and The Year of the Flood and was worried that might slow the momentum. The Year of the Flood provided the backstory to many of the characters introduced in the 1st book, even tertiary characters. I loved the interconnectedness between the characters. You hear about MaddAddam in the 1st book and find out his identity in the 2nd book early on, if you pay attention to the nicknames/clues. Now that I have finished the 2nd book in the Trilogy I checked out the final one - MaddAddam.
