I think if I hadn't read it for a class it'd get a higher rating but it's such a beautiful and important book for sure. Maybe in the future I can read it for myself without deadlines involved and truly enjoy it.

Why did I wait so long to read this book!
I knew going into this story that it was going to have content about residential schools and with that I knew it was going to be difficult going. What I didn’t expect was the main character’s fortitude in the face of the trauma in his life.
Wagamese has written a story of resilience and heart. Beginning with the love of his grandmother and moving through hardships in residential school and finding love in the sport of hockey and found family, Saul Indian Horse writes in his journal while in a treatment centre for alcoholism.
I would love to see this read by all high school students and anyone in sports that wants to understand internal drive.
I have Medicine Walk in my shelves and I hope it doesn’t go too long before I read that one.
Moderate: Alcoholism, Child abuse, Child death, Pedophilia, Racial slurs, Racism, Sexual assault, Forced institutionalization, Religious bigotry, Colonisation
A powerful book that should be mandatory reading for every Canadian
Impossible to put down. I can't believe it took me this long to pick up. Best book I read this year.
