The writing of the book, the sentence structures, the descriptions of places, views were beautiful and engrossing. I was really into the first part of the book, the one where Indian Horse talks about his family, his parent's silence, his grandmother's strength, and the loss not only of family, but of culture and connectins and gods. It was powerful. When the story moves away from that it lost me a little, maybe because I don't give a shit about hockey, but maybe also cause the "reveal" at the end was entirely predicatable. The story was definetly sad, and I think it could be a good intro to residential schools, but as someone who has read the history it was not shocking, and I think the focus on hockey took away from the examination of grief for me.
